Ok, so im putting an evo 8 dash (and seats, center console, and steering wheel) in my 1gb, and I have been looking for about 3 weeks trying to figure out what i need to make the evo gauges work. Can I just pull a speed sensor out of a 2g and put it in place of my stock speed cable and wire it to the gauges, or is there some kind of controller?
And just so everyone knows, the dash still needs about 2 inches trimmed off where it meets the windshield. Other than that, it looks like several of the mounting points are in the same places as the stock dash! I honestly think they modeled the lancer cockpit after the 1g talons. The HVAC ducting even lines up perfectly when the dash is trimmed. And no, I didn't cut the holes in the dash. I got it (for free) like that.
Back on topic, any positive input is appreciated.

this is very interesting because I've been wanting to get a 1g lately but the only reason I'm not really wanting to is because the interior. that is awesome. did make a different thread on how you did that??

sorry i couldn't be any help.

Im currently in the process of moving 40 miles, but once i move im going to start a thread. It will cover everything after the original dash removal.

Pretty interesting!..

Hook us up with some better pics.

Dunno about in the 1G but this would definitely spruce up that horrific 2G interior if it fit..

You'd be surprised how much Evo stuff is interchangeable with the earlier Mitsu vehicles. Hell The interior damn near bolts into my VR4..

Lets get some bigger pic that we can actually see..

Here you go... kinda
Don't mind all the shit in the car, it was parked at my buddy's house, and we threw everything in it real quick to clean the garage before I left.

I too secretly have been searching for a 1g, I'm trying to get my neighbor to let his go for a song. All i know is it's a Mitsubishi, has a rear differential, and fixed Headlights. so I'm assuming it's a GSX. I just can't get close due to the huge Dobies.

If its got a rear diff, its a gsx/tsi. The Rounded headlights just mean its a 1gb.

This is awesome best of luck on it. Definitely interested in trying this in my 2g....anything to get rid of the miserable looking stock one LOL.

Well the only to find out without searching for it, is to just try it out. Or just compare and measure. Almost ANYthing can be done with a ...little, modification hehe

Back to the original topic, I am not 100% sure if the 2G speed sensor is a drop in place of the 1G speedo cable but if it does then yes you should be able to just wire it in and be good. I don’t know off the top of my head if the EVO and 2G wiring for the speedo are the same but I can look when I get home.

On a side note, makes me wonder if you can put a 3ksi dash in a 2G…:hmm: That one would probably look better in a 1G car than the 2G.

I'd recommend not even trying it. The 3g dash is a flimsy POS dashboard made of plastic. 3g owners go through major headaches with these dash boards cracking and breaking constantly....just an FYI :)

EDIT: Just realized you said 3ksi dash...ugh...long night at work and my eyes are crossing. That one I have no idea about....sorry. Aaaand incase someone decides to say something, the reason the post was edited instead of deleted was in case someone was wondering about the 3g dash swap either now, or in the future.

That's why i said i still have to trim the dash, I only need to take about 1 to 2 inches off of the dash where it meets the windshield. Also when i took these pics/videos, dumb me didn't remove the brackets for the stock radio mounting position. The area for the radio to mount is built in to the evo dash, but it is part of the dash support in the stock 1gb's.
But on a side note, the mounting position for the clock in the evo dash is now going to be the new home of a greddy profec b. :hellyeah:

And to mike96, the speed sensor wires directly to the dash? cause i can get the wiring schematics.

Sorry about that I had to wait until I got home so I could dig it out of the manual. It was late night... Anyway for your intended purpose, Yes you could wire it straight to the dash, but as far as I can tell it has to be a turbo speed sensor, I am not sure the one from a 420A car will work the same. On the speed sensor pin 3 goes to the Gage pod connector 1 pin 12 the other two pins are 1 = 12V and 2 = gnd. Where you get power and ground from doesn't matter so long as 12V is switched, you don't want to have power ran to the speed sensor 24 hours a day.

I just checked threw the manual for the 2G and the speed sensor for the 420a cars will NOT work. They are powered by the PCM and only get 8V to operate not 12V like the turbo cars.

ok, so im hitting a roadblock with the wiring. can anyone get wiring diagrams with individual pinouts for the gauges, ac controls, etc? i can find general schematics with power routing, but no pinouts. on a side note, i went to pick up an intake manifold and knock sensor for $20, and the "2g" intake manifold was a evo 3! For basically $10! pics tomorrow (hopefully, i don't have internet at my house anymore)
