I disagree.. I don't think two doors or 4 doors has anything to do with a vehical leaving production, or for that matter raising insurance premiums. What about the new 350Z, no cargo room and a 2 seater, it has 2 doors and it's priced right around what the EVO and STI are priced at. Anyways.. I'm 34 years old and I have never heard of a insurance company in my life time giving you a break just because a car has 4 doors compared to 2 doors. Most of the insurance companies charge high premiums if the car is considered a high performance vehical, wheather if the vehical is 4 doors or not. Also.. if your under the age of 25 you will most likely have even higher premiums. The insurance companies are not dumb, they do investigate newer cars that come into production, atleast I know my insurance company does, and I'm covered through State farm. I have all three of my vehicals covered, plus life insurance, and my home owners insurance all together in one policy, and I pay a total of $140 a month.

Since the car has 4 doors they could classify it as a sedan instead of a sports car. Also, they did put it in 4 doors to increase sales. It is not a very economical car otherwise like the new 350z. Yeah you can rip the streets up in it but that is all. Why do you think the rx-8 also has 4 doors and why did the new civic si get a larger cabin. The main reason other sport went out of business is because decreased sales. I will try to get production numbers of the mkiv supra, 300zx tt, and rx-7 out of old sport compact magazines for you.

A vehical with a hatchback doesn't help anyhing for lower insurance rates period. I know mine doesn't make any difference. A corvette has a hatch, or should I say a glass hatch, so I guess that will give me a small break if I indeed swap my GS-T for a C5. I don't think so LOL.

That's because a corvette is classified by insurance companies as a sports car. There is no way to say well "I know mine doesn't make any difference," because have you ever insured a eclipse coupe?

Exactly... and an Eclipse is considered a sports car by most insurance companies. The GS-Turbo models that is. That is what I'm getting at. It doesn't make a difference if the car has 4 doors, 2 doors, hatchback, glass hatch, no antenna, yadda yadda. They go by if it is considered a sports car, turbo, twin turbo, V8 etc. And no.. I have never insured an eclipse coupe, that's a good one LOL. Example: People years ago would buy a Mustang LX with the 5.0 in it instead of the GT version so they could get the same cheap insurance rates as if it was just an LX with a 4cyl.

The car is still classified by your insurance however and if they didn't factor this in somewhere, they wouldn't classify it. You're right, they can classify a vehicle whatever they want, but these classifications do play a factor. You're also right they factor in other things such as displacement, horsepower, crash rates, etc. as well. That's why they will still charge a high premium, but they would charge even more if it were considered a sports car, or a convertible, or a 2 seater.
