8.969 @ 155.22 mph!!

This past Friday Ivan and myself took a day off and went to Greatlakes Dragway to make some passes in my Mirage/Evo 1. I recently put on a vacuum pump for the brakes to help hold the car back on the line and also put in a new shift box from Roadsurge.

The car was originally a 94' Mitsubishi Mirage 2DR. If any of you ever wondered where all of the AWD parts went from our old EVO 1 Outlaw car project this is where. It was converted to AWD Automatic with a 4G63. It has a 2.1L AMS 6 Bolt in it along with a IPT Automatic transmission. Everything was built here at AMS from the roll cage to the manifolds. And then to top it off I put the complete Evo 1 front end on it.

It is still a very streetworthy car, it has almost the entire interior still in it with the exception of the passenger side seat. All of the windows are still glass and the doors are completely un-touched, the windows still roll up and down. It also is still sporting a completetely stock EVO 1 IRS rear end.

The videos are of two of the passes I made that day, one being a 9.39 and the other the 8.96 pass. The car began breaking up at the big end of the track so im currently working with Sparktech to get a ignition system put together for the car.

After I get some more weight out of it and get my Sparktech ignition things will get very interesting.

Auto FTW. Great job Scott! I see why you have been keeping quiet about your car LOL:D I just noticed that your 60ft was a 1.4. Was this expected, or did you think it would be lower?

I will go lower, I still dont have much seat time in this car and im still messing with the timing of brake boosting and spraying the car at the line. This past trip I had a vacuum pump for the brakes and was spraying on the line and obviously it helped out quite a bit.

I take it your spraying while on the foot brake right before you let loose? Allot of the supra guys do this with there t400 trans with trans brakes. Makes for one hell of a launch thats for sure! It's nice to see a 4g63 auto take the spray while on the brake.:thumb:

How is the converter taking the spray on the brake so far?

Yah I tried spraying on the converter before I put in a vacuum pump and it would just blow through the brakes. After I got some vacuum to the booster I now can hold the thing back a little longer. I was trying to time when I sprayed it and on a sportsman tree I was spraying on the 2nd amber all the way up to 35 psi down the track.

This past trip was the first time I tried it and so far it seems to be working well. I have a video from behind the car of one of the times I did it and it sounds and looks pretty cool.

Im going to be at GLD in Wisconsin this weekend for Import Wars to practice a little more and see what I can get out of her.

AAWWWWW come on!!! take it to the shootout!! that is the only reason a few of my buddies wanted to go, To see some AMS cars & AMS is not even going

Very nice runs! So, you're spraying when you're brake boosting, not when you let off like you were? (I think I read that right.) Let me know what you feel works best. Congrats on the 8-second pass!

Congrats Scott, nice passes!

Why are you shifting to 4th anyway? Rumor has it somewhere in the 900whp range that the end clutch hub/spline and input shaft out there start going boom. If you can keep it in 3rd and rev it out, that is probably a good idea. I expect that 2.1l likes to stretch its legs out there anyway.

Nice work Scott! I saw the vids on widsm yesterday, that car is haulin!

I cannot wait to hear how IW#5 goes.

Keep up the good work!

Is this a 1g or 2g trans ? Aren't the gear ratios off with the manual trans rear end and the automatic trans and transfer case? What converter you using ? Great work guys

The motor can be revved a little more, I may try sticking in 3rd at the end next time I get to the track but its screamin at the big end. I have shifted into 4th almost every pass this year and havent had any issues. Last year on the street I broke the splines on my end clutch on my 2g, but that was flooring it at like 3k rpms. I think shifting into 4th and having it go to about 6k rpm's is easier on it.

This is a 1g trans. The rear end pumpkin is all EVO 1 but I swapped in a 1g automatic dsm ring and pinion. Im using a IPT torque converter.

Scott, would you mind uploading thses vids on this so that I can view them in a way better quality? The website is very easy to use. You dont have to make an account or anything like that. You just have to upload it and when that's done you copy and paste the link on your 1st post. Great times on an auto!

I heard about the 8 second pass from Mark pretty much right away but didn't see this thread till now... congrats on the 8 second pass man. Dunno if you tried the new launch method off my suggestion from the other thread about launching, but glad it worked out well for ya. The 60 foots will come down with some more launching practice I'm sure. Gotta be a fun car on the street!

Congrats on the 8 second pass, what flexplate are you running? and have you had much breakage issues with it?
