so with an evo 8 turbo, if i were to bolt up a evo3 hot side to it then i wouldnt need a custom manifold or nothin right? and i could use my current down pipe right?

then i would need to modify an actuator to fit it, and a j-pipe, and i should be okay?

Don't think its that simple, if it was I'm sure lots would have done it by now. The motor & turbo are a mirror of our setup. So for starters you'd have to clock the compressor housing & if you can get it in a position that works, its defently going to require a custom IC pipe. Next I would be pretty sure they no longer use the TD05 turbine wheel so you can't just bolt on one of our std housing as the wheel won't fit. Those would be the most obvious reason's but there may be more.

The Evo 8 Turbo is a "dual scroll" design. Therefore I really don't think it's a easy as bolting up a Evo 3 hotside.

maybe its not an evo 8 turbo, maybe a 7? because my exhaust housing fits on fine...

I was under the impression the Evo turbo spun the opposite direction of a standard turbo. If that's the case a standard turbine housing will not work.

ya thats what i was just looking at, it has to face the drivers side... maybe ill fab a top-mount mani, with the turbo sticking out the hood....

The blades are going the opposite direction. But a custom manifold that makes it fit would be really cool, I can't believe no one has made one yet.

Uh did no one read my post? The guy made a custom manifold and made it fit... READ IT.

to put an evo8 turbo on a 1g or 2g motor is alot of work. ill look around there was a huge write up on it with pics. but you need to move the altantor to the back of the motor. the intake tube will be on the oppoiste side then where it sits now along with other things i honnestly dont think its worth the money.

I really want to put on a evo9 turbo, I think its worth it...

Or the white rabbit...

2.3 liter evos use there stock turbos and make well over 400whp!

Yea I dont get why people do that.. Happens to me all the time, ill answer a question then three other people after me answer what I just answered like I didnt just say that...LOL

And I dont see the big deal about doing the work to put a evo turbo other than bragging rights...
Id rather just use that money and bolt a 20g up or something for what its worth...

does the twin scroll not make it worth it?

..I thought they spooled much nicer than a single tang turbo.

the twin scroll design is good...but its not going to perform better than a larger bb turbo. to me, it's not worth getting a custom manifold just to run a 16g.

are there upgrade evo turbos available that are twin scroll BB?

if so the manifold would definitly be worth it for those of us interested in reducing lag.. like me.

So do evo8s. . .

DSMjrv, it's probably little more custom than what you think but still, I say go for it. . . . Isn't the MHI housing bolt patterns the same? It's a reverse scroll turbo. So the compressor housing will be "turning" the other way.

Nice work, TSG59_Steve:thumb:

I'd love to see a comparison of the spool up and top end power of an EVO3 16g vs an EVO8/9 setup on a DSM, same car, same mods, same dyno, same day. I'd be surprised if the gains were anything worth all the extra work when you can get an EVO3 for around $500.
