A friend of mine did me a favor and allowed me to use his hoist/tools to drop the trans for a clutch job and to look at what's goin on with 1st gear. I asked in a previous post what I should do while the trans is out and evo 3rd and 4th gears came up. While I'm grateful he did me a solid by letting me use his tools and hoist to get the trans out...he's kind of giving me grief about doing only what needs to be done to "get the car running again". He's not convinced that an evo gear swap is long term "necessity" to keep the car moving. So I was wondering if it's really as much trouble as he's saying it's goin to be. Their trans guy is more than capable as their main focus is build custom auto and street rods so I know it's not a "he won't know how to do it" scenario. Thoughts?

Forgot to mention...I already ordered all the parts from Jack's Transmissions.

Part list:
evo 3rd and 4th gear; 1G 3 & 4 shift fork and shaft; torrington bearing.

How can I convince them that this SHOULD be done since the trans is already out? I know if it doesn't get done I'll ###### be looking at droppin the trans again in the near future correct?

Well turns out the guy I bought this car from wasn't as forth coming with the details of the car as he should have been. (no surprise right?) It's gone from the shop thinking I jumped the gun and bought too many parts to not buying enough parts. Basically the guy before me roasted the trans and it's very possible that nothing is re-usable. So much for "worst case scenario it just needs 1st gear". Kinda pissed, but guess I shoulda known better when the car wasn't even drivable when I bought it. Hopefully I can get on the other side of this without having to file bankruptcy.
