I have a chance to buy an evo 3 for $75. But it has some shaft play. Just curios as to about how much a rebuild would cost? I searched but most threads are out of date. And would this even be a good deal? Im not sure how much play it has so your best ballpark would be greatly appreciated.

A rebuild at a shop like FP will run you $400 or more not including any major part replacement (turbine shaft, compressor wheel, etc). There are members of this site that can do the service for much less:

To be considered a rebuildable core, *some* shaft play is acceptable. If your turbo has enough play that the wheels got mowed down from hitting the housings, you basically paid $75 for a turbine housing and wastegate actuator because the rest of the turbo will be junk. By the time you replace all the parts necessary to make it perform like a new one, you would've been better off buying a new Evo III 16G.
