It is also wrong. What are you trying to regulate with your boost controller? Intercooler pipe pressure? No!

You are trying to regulate intake manifold pressure. So source your boost controller at the intake manifold!

Additionally, if you mount the MBC source before the throttle body, you will see boost quite a bit earlier under part-throttle conditions. In a lot of cases, especally with a smaller turbo, you can have 8 psi more in the intercooler pipes than in the manifold. This can totally banjax your boost response.

I have a evo3 turbo in my talon and get full boost at around 2900-3000rpm with my 8.3:1 motor.... I have a ported head and ported evo3 manifold and O2..... When I had the JOE P (POS) boost controler I had all kinds of boost spike after 5000 rpm....it would go from 16-21 like nothing! But that was that junk boost controlers fault....

I checked out my boost controller and I have it set up fine.

It just doesn't seem like the turbo is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Slow Boy said I might need a new wastgate actuator. If I am not boosting could that be the problem, maybe the wastegate isn't closing. I'm not positive on how it works but maybe that is my problem.

Hopefully this weekend I can pull the o2 housing and check the wasgate itself and look for cracks around the passage.

Before you take it all apart, you could try removing the actuator, wiring the wg flapper closed, see if it spools faster, then immediately get off the gas so you don't overboost.

You can also test the actuator with a diagnostic pump (forgot "real name"), but you attach the pump to the actuator, see how much pressure it takes (should be a gauge on the pump) to move the wg actuator. I also forget what the spec is supposed to be...

Ok, I'm having problems with imagestation, here is the link to the album pic...album pic... I'm thinking getting rid of the red T section and running it straight to the wastegate. Can the CH nipple be capped off? And with what?

Jake

Yeah, that looks wrong to me...

I don't have the red t section hooked up, it looks like the way youre doing it the MBC is doing nothing (except acting as a plug), and the copm. outlet is opening your wg early. My MBC setup is the same as the diagram otherwise. Cap off that ch nipple with a pice of plugged vacuum hose for now, put a small bolt in a piece of vac hose and clamp it down, then attach that to the ch nipple, you can find a nicer looking solution later.

Good Luck,
Dave

Hey, I found the problem!! I just happened to run into an old racing buddy who has been turboing cars for like 6 years and actually is a head guy on homemadeturbo.com and he diagnosed my problem in about 45 seconds, LOL. It turns out for some reason my wastegate actuator arm is too long not allowing the wastegate to close. He just pulled off the arm closed the wastegate fully and they didn't line up until the gate was about half open. So I put some washers where the actuator connects to the turbo to pull the arm back. I still need to tweak it a bit more cause I'm not hitting full boost until 4 grand still, but it is immediate now! Anyways thanks for all the tips.

hey guys..im buttin in on this conversation..
i just blew my turbo (t-25) so now i have no turbo and not enough money to buy what i ultimatly wanted to buy (PTE 50trim turbo)
so now its on to plan b..EVO 8 16g.
so since im buying it this week i want to know if you guys are still using the 450cc with the stock fuel pump, and what boost level are u guys at?
I plan on running only 12psi on the EVO8 16g
thanks guys

You mean Evo III 16G, not Evo 8. I wouldn't upgrade the turbo without upgrading everything else first.

Agreed. This isn't a turbo I would throw on with no fuel. My first run on it I was getting 38lb/min on it.

Back to the topic. Creep? I get about 2-3psi of creep. It only does it in 2nd and 3rd gear. 4th and 5th gears hold boost perfectly.

It was ported at FP. I have not touched anything. Still running the stock flapper.

Creep is to a certain psi. At that point, you are flowing enough through the turbine that wastegate can keep up.

So what does yours creep to?

Just adding my 2cents in since I just installed my evo 16g and am having similar problems. Mine big time over boosts (25+) but will not hit full boost until redline if I do 3rd or 4th gear`pulls. Boost will build with rpms and starts at about 10psi at 3.5k. I have the MBC backed all the way out because of the over boosting problem. Could my WG acuator be bad? The turbo,o2 housing and exhuast manifold have all been ported and I have a full 3" exhuast with 3" cat. Was told by slowboy I need the 34mm WG.

Boost is set to 20psi. Creeps to 22-23psi. The car feels great at 25psi. No creep to there.:p

I'm still running rich. I've pulled 10% fuel from 2.5k rpms to 7k. I'm still at .92-94v. EGTs right out side 1600*. Still no knock.

Since you're in dire straits and cant afford to upgrade your fuel system right now try and keep it under 12psi to be safe. BTW 450's and stock pump are not enough to represent with the EVOIII. You'll knock AND run lean.
