I am running a 2g w/ a built 6 bolt. Evo3 16g without 34mm flappper. I have an upgraded side mount (for the time being) from Hahnmotorsports. I have the evo 3 o2 housing and a 3 inch exhaust from Extrememotorsports (no cat). A ported 2g exhaust mani. 550 and a 255lbs walbro w/ fpr. HKS cams(264in,272ex). My questions here are:
What fp to set(40-43?)?
What boost is safe?
I also have a pocketlogger and a SAFC-II, but haven't installed it yet(safc-II).
What should a set my low and high at?
The reason I ask like this is because I had all this stuff and when I had to take my head in to get done I decided to install all this then. I will hopefully be running this weekend but I still have some questions on what to expect. Thanks for all ya'lls help. :thumb: :dsm:

38-43psi is what most people generally run on 6-bolted 2G's. I'd use 43 personally just because most injectors are rated at 43psi.

The boost level that you do not knock at is safe. You have a logger, use it. 16psi should do you good for now, but you never know....don't even really bother until you get the safc hooked up. You have changed the car from stock, thus it needs tuned. Better safe than sorry. I had to slightly re-tune my DSMlink once because I removed a few feet of IC pipe (custom short-route FMIC piping). That should show you that every little change results in another, and you've made alot of changes! Especially with the 550's.

Setup your SAFC with the proper compensation, throw the datalogger on, and readup on these articles:

Soon you'll be good enough to tune to perfection. Boost can be set as high as the car will take (you'll soon understand!)

When you mean 550, do you mean 550cc injectors?
If that's the case, then you could quite well run some pretty high boost numbers with that turbo--18/19 psi--with proper tuning of course.

You need to hook up that datalogger to check knock and your fuel trims.
There's no way around that actually.

Well I hooked up datalogger and it does not give me knock. Is there a good system out there to read knock besides DSMLink? 43 psi is good. That is what I was going to set it at anyhow. I am not sure yet if I can run my boost controller without my AFC-II hooked up? :dsm:

Wait, do you have the injectors installed without an afc?

You must be running very rich across the board.

If that's the case, you should try to zero out your trims using the datalogger by tuning with fuel pressure.

550s are bigger than stock, but not much, but it's enough to make the car run like crap if ou don't have some type of compensation.

why do you have a 16g on a built motor  ... put on stock injectors until an safc is installed. 19 psi should be fine once you have those injectors and the safc in with proper tuning. And please get a real turbo and a fmic!!!

 LOL you are right 1fast97gsx. I have spent alot of money and time building the motor for high HP. The Evo 3 16g is just a learning turbo for me (everyone has to start some where) this spring I will be going for either a GT35R or a T4 set up and DSMLink. I have the AFC in the car ready to wire in(maybe tommorrow). It is that I am a little nerves about tuning, cause this is my first and on my own(except for all you fellow DSMers here helping people like me). Many of my friends don't have alot of respect for these cars and I have been the butt of alot of there jokes about the down time and all the bolt ons. I say ####um though! I'll show them!!! :thumb: :dsm:

Not everybody runs the 1/4 mile with their cars... I have a built engine on a small 16g, setup for road racing and rally...

I have a 1g, and I hope this info is pertinent...just my thoughts
Tuning with 550s isnt so bad.
It's not hard to do--just time consuming.

Just watch the knock readings, o2 trims, and fuel trims for right now.
Make sure you don't have too much knock--over 9 counts (a little is okay)--and try to keep your fuel trims close to zero.

I used this link to learn how to tune:
http://hywell.org/plhelp/

Your 550s need to be leaned out at various points in the curve, but to know where takes mostly trial and error.

Go to the www.roadraceengineering.com site and search articles about afc tuning.
They have some base settings.

If your fuel trims are out of whack big time, even with messing with the afc, it means your fuel pressure settings are off.

Use the fuel pressure to get your fuel trims as close as possible before messing with the afc--just my opinion.

I have a 95 gsx. The OBDII logger does not give me a knock sum. Any suggestions on how to get knock readings?

To my knowledge DSM link is the only way to read knock on a 2g. When I had a pocketlogger safc II setup, I just watched the timing and if it got pulled even by a few degrees I assumed knock, but that is all you can do with loggers on a 2g is assume. That is why I sold my setup and went for dsm link (well worth the money).

Have fun and I am sure once you get it tuned you wont be dissapointed with the 16g, properly tuned this turbo has performed very well for its size... :thumb:
