I bought an EPROM from a junk yard, and was told it works. Well, I have my chip and everything in, but it's throwing a crank angle sensor CEL. It runs and everything, but it's throwing the light.

I did not test it before I had the chip put in because I am a retard :)

However, I had my buddy who socketed it look at it numerous times, and he could not find anything wrong.

Dave from DSMLink wants $66/hr to look at/fix it.

Does anyone know anybody any cheaper? He said he didn't think it'd take more than an hour, but if it takes a few hours, I'd be better off buying another one? I just don't know what to do, really.

This sucks.

EDIT : Forgot to mention that the stock ECU doesn't throw the code.

Talk to Kyle T on here. kpt4321 something or other. He's worked with ECU's before and may be able to provide a little help. Also you may want to talk to Jeff Oberholtzer. He's a great guy and helped me out when my ECU was socketed wrong.

Jeff O. sent me to Dave :)

But, if Kyle doesn't find his way in here, I'll PM him a bit later.

Thanks,

Here are some pics. Yes, he hard-wired some of it - I can't remember why.

In the one pic, I have a pin circled. There doesn't seem to be any solder on this pin - should there be?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

After looking at it, it doesn't seem to lead anywhere, and my buddy thinks it's just to help hold it in?

Could the capacitors or transistors (if there even any) on the line coming out of Pin 89 (Crank Angle Sensor pin) be shot or something?

Basically, I'm just trying to figure out if me or my friend that did the original socketing could fix this, as I really don't have the extra money to spend on ECU repair at the moment, but can put off a clutch a little longer if need be.

Thanks,

I PM'ed Kyle, and tried getting a hold of him through AIM. If I don't get a hold of someone soon, it is probably just going to be sent to DSMLink.

:(

If you wind up getting another ECU don't let your friend socket it. Sorry man, he really screwed that one up. Ouch! Looks like he used a standard style socket too. You'll have to watch to make sure the chip doesn't pop loose over time.

His works perfectly, and he works on electronics all the time, so I'm not so sure it was entirely his fault.

And the socket came with the chip, and believe me, that chip is awfully tight in there.
