Well I got a EPROM ecu out of an 92 Auto AWD TSI.
Would it work in my 90 gsx manual?? or I need an EPROM for a manual?
I'm assuming you can have it reprogramed for a MT with dsmlink??

From DSM Link's FAQ

- Does FWD/AWD matter when locating an ECU?

No. Any turbo model DSM EPROM ECU will work identically for purposes of running DSMLink. You do not need to concern yourself with whether the ECU came from AWD, FWD, automatic, or manual transmission car. The one exception to this is for the 1G automatic cars. If you're going to install DSMLink into a 1G automatic, please be aware that as of this writing (02/02/2005), we do not support the 1G automatic code base. We can install the manual code base into your ECU if you'd like, and there are a few people running like this, but we really haven't fully tested this configuration ourselves

So in sum, if you are running a 1G A/T ECU in a 1G M/T car you're good to go :dsm:

The blurb from DSMLink is about the hardware. You can use pretty much any ECU in a manual from a 1G. The code base is different as the auto's ran smaller injectors and slightly different timing and fuel maps. So yes you would need to either purchase a chip or go with DSMlink to get the most from it otherwise you are going to loose power pretty much everywhere from running rich. Also their are 2 wires that you have to swap to get the tach to operate properly. You can find that info in the tech articles I'm sure.

If you want to do it the quick and dirty way, just switch the #6 and #14 wires on the ecu harness. The tach will go nuts all the time, but the engine will run right.
Correct, pins 6 and 14 are the MAF Reset and Idle Position Switch signals and their location on the ECU connector swapped between the 1990 and later cars. The tach circuit also changed between 90 and 91 so the 90 ECUs will work in the later cars but the later ECUs will cause the tachometer to malfunction in a 90 car.

The AT and MT ECUs share the same hardware with different software running on them. So running DSMLink or a new EPROM will change a AT into a MT ECU.
