Hey guys, so i heard some noise coming from the engine barely noticeable but out of place. took it to my mechanic and he said one of my rod bearings was going out. he told me i would be fine to drive as long as im careful. havent driven it since.although it runs and drives fine no metal in the oil or anything abnormal other than the noise so my question is do you think if i just replace the bearings the engine will be ok or will it happen again. just dont know what to believe at this point. any help is appreciated.

Ok thanks I was just under the impression that if the bearing went bad it could score the crank and being that the piston might be loose that it could wear on the block as well thanks for the input.

Even the slightest bit of rod knock can and will distort the big end bore of the con rod.

If you want to come close of "doing it right" pull the head, and pop that one rod out and have it checked and/or resized as needed.

Best bet would a light rebuild. Take the block with crank/pistons have them check to see what all needs to be done. Most times it will need the crank cut (at the very least) and the rod with the spun bearing will need some attention. This would also be a good time to look at your cylinder walls to see if there in good shape. When this happened to me I had to get my cylinders bored 1mm over. Can get costly depending on what route you decide to take.($$I went all out performance rebuild$$) LOL

Or if your funds are low.

Take a look at the rod that's spun, and the crank. *IF* it doesn't have any scaring just replace the bearing. But if the rod is out of round or the crank isn't in specs it will go out again.
