I have a problem. one of my cylinders isnt firing and i dont want to spend 1200 bucks for a valve job and piston work. so should i buy a new head? maybe a high performance one from burcher racing. or my buddy said i had to rebuild my engine but i dont know what that includes. if i get it professionsally done will that fix my cylinder problem?? is there a faq on replacing the head thx??

Yeah, definately check out the suggestions mentioned. Typically cylinder heads dont cause problems like that...it could..but its more commonly something else...

Good Luck..

because i went through the wires and pulled each one while the car was on and each time it would die alittle when i pulled the third from the left it did nothing so i know that cylinder isnt firing. so i already replaced the wires/injectors/plugs.

WELL I KNOW THE ELECTRICAL IS GOOD! i changed the injectors but what could possibly make one injector not get fuel?? and its the third from the left. thats the cylinder thats not firing. and my conclusion is that the tip of the spark plug fell inside the cylinder and jammed it up cause when i changed the plugs the first time that tip was black and burnt off!! now everytime i take out my plugs that one is covered in oil soo i dont know??? any help????

Cam sensor going bad, ECU, injector control module. Any of those going bad could make you experience what you are.

You should be able to hear it if this is the case.

That could be bad valve seals or valve cover gasket and the car can smoke from time to time. Does it??? :talon:

Have you compression checked the engine? Remember we have a wasted spark ignition so if you completely disconnect that cylinder (where it can not arc to the head) you will also take out the #2 cylinder.

Are you absolutely sure you are getting spark to all 4 cylinders at the right time? Are you absolutely sure you are getting fuel? If you were getting fuel and no spark/ignition then you would most likely have a wet plug. Have you checked your cam timing?

Start with the basics.

Compression check the 4 cylinders. Check all 4 plugs for signs of not running correctly. Check your cam timing. Pull the fuel rail and make sure all 4 injectors are working.

Unless the problem is a messed up valve, cylinder wall, or piston (all will show in the compression check) then it is most likely not a problem that will need a new head or block/rebuild.

Word^^^Thanks for doing all the typin for me ;) :thumb:

Aside from the compression check, etc There are two coil packs..Try switching them and see if the problem still exists on the same cylinder or has moved to a different cylinder. Might be an electrical signal to the coil pack or a defective coil pack.

Another thing you can try is to see if it is a there is a proper electrical signal to the injector. See if you can buy or borrow a set of Noid Lights and hook the light to each injector.

I thought of that 2 but 99% of the time, if it deals with the coil, he would have 2 cylinders not firing, not just one. Its still possible but unlikely. Id check that last if all else fails :talon:
