I was wondering if I got a roll of dynamat or other sound deadening material and put a few layers under my hood and around the engine in the bay, would the overall sound of my engine decrease significantly?

Yes..but why is your engine making that much noise would be my concern. Also, have you used dynamat before? Do you realize how heavy this stuff is? Also I am not too sure how heat resistant this product is. On the underside of the hood is non to wise in my opinion for the heat factor and the weight factor.

this is not a good idea. you are going to seal heat into the engine compartment. you're fans would most likely be working overtime and you might even over heat. Plus like stated above, that stuff is flammable.

Why is the engine making noise? It sounds like you need a mechanic, not sound dampening...

Not bad noise, just the noise machine makes when its working. Intake filter noise, etc. This is just a thought, which I wont do now becuase of the points given, mostly becuase I dont want my car to be a fireball.
