I rebuilt my engine 1500 miles ago 4g63T and I've just now ran into a problem. I was driving it and I heard a high pitch whining noise like a belt was rubbing something. Pulled over and couldn't find anything. So I then decided to make my way home and I started to hear a tapping/knocking noise so I put it in neutral and the car stalled. I had smoke come out of the oil cap. I took out the spark plugs and turned it over and no noise. I put the spark plugs back in without the wires hooked up and it made the noise. I did a compression check and all is fine, but one cylinder had 10 psi less 152-142-152-152.

Could it be a bad bearing since it knocked/tapped when it had compression in th cylinders from turning it over w/ sparkplugs in.

drained the oil, nothing out of the ordinary. Checked under the valve cover cant see any signs of a bent valve. I am taking the oil pan off to see if there is a ny metal chips or anything that would give me signs of a bad rod bearing.
 
After thinking about it I've come to the realization that it is a knock znd not a tap. Also my car doesent have the best oil pressure. Has anyone ever heard of a whining noise before a bearing went out.

Also what are the signs that I cn look for to tell what bearing it is when the oil pan is off???
 
Does your car have a BS elim. kit? low oil pressure could be a popped off squirter(assuming you put them in) or a bad bearing. Anyway when you pull the pan check it out the one with the bad bearing might be loose. My buddy had no oil pressure to his head because of his oil pump gear eating into the housing and falling in the pan. After about 5 heads he discovered this and all is well. But it was a nasty sound.

I dropped the oil pan to find out the balance shaft that was cut off fell out! Can the oil pump still work after this has happen? Would have the little gear inside still turn to produce oil pressure when the shaft fell out??? Also there are some metal flakes in the oil pan.
 
I was able to move the number 2 rod so I took it off and the bearing was shredded to shit. and the oil hole ing the crank was clogged. The only problem I have now is part of the bearing is stuck to the rod! :mad:
 
How bad is the crank? Obviously its worth a shot to try it out but just wondering. Check the casing , cause when this happened to my buddy it ate the casing and that gear fell out. But we had an extra block there replaced it and its been good so far!
