Hello everybody,

It's been a while since I have posted. I ran into quite a bit of bad luck. I was laid off from my job so I have been collecting some unemployment while studying at home. It's relaxing but I don't have cash to do anything except pay bills. So, enough of my sob story...onto the news.

Last I posted it was regarding my compression issue. Well, 2800 dollars later my car is ready for the modding. As it turned out...the compression was due to a bad exhaust valve. I had a complete valve job done and now compression is top notch all the way across the board. =) I also had my clutch master and slave cylinders fixed. One day I went to start up the car and the floor was just sitting on the floor. I couldn't get the car into 1st gear and would grind bad going into reverse. Quick fix to get it to a driveable was to pump the pedal for a good couple of minutes. Hopefully that saves a couple of you that have this common problem 60 bucks to get your car towed.

So now that I am pretty much completely broke I can at least look forward to getting a job and doing some mods. I was asked to take some pictures of my car. I will head downstairs and snap off a few for those that want to take a look. Nothing special though. COMPLETELY STOCK silver 98 GSX. brb.

just curious who charged you 2800 dollars for a head rebuild ### i might have a few things that i can help ya out with... LOL i had my head redone for 150 dollars but i did a ton of the work myself.

I have a certain mechanic that I go to that is located in Campbell CA. I don't mind paying the price because I don't really have the time to learn how to take apart my engine. LOL He is a really good guy. It is hard to find people that you can trust in the automotive tech field. It costed a pretty penny for sure but I can rest easy knowing that I wont have to worry about stuff happening in the future. The shop is called "Autotrend Diagnostics". Feel free to do a websearch.

If anybody is located in the bay area and knows of good places to get paint done at a fair price could you shoot me some info? As you can tell from the photos I have posted below, I need my side skirts redone. I hear it happens to all of the silver dsm owners. On with the pics...

wow you got ripped off. I had my head completely redone after bending 8 valves, getting a new headgasket on, my big16g installed, and misc other crap for $1600 bucks

California...knows how to party!

I don't feel like I was ripped off. I was originally going to take my car to FFtec but it was just so much of a drive compared to where I live. If you don't know who FFtec is they are an extremely reputable company based here in CA in Union City that deals specifically with DSMs. They are active members on this forum as well. They don't charge that much different of a price than the usual local mechanic that I go to.

I would also like to mention that my mechanic that I go to warranties all work for 24k miles. That's a guarantee that I don't mind paying a little bit extra for. But glad to hear that you are saving money.

One other thing...where can I order a new antenna? The powered one is alright but I was thinking of going with an aftermarket antenna that isn't vulnerable to being bent (like the one you see in the pics) If there aren't any that get good reception I will just order another mast from the dealership.

Right before I sold my 97 GS, I bought a new one since I bent the powered one in the car wash. Here's a link to the one I bought. For 25 bucks it was real nice. I thought I wouldn't have liked it but it looked pretty good once it was on the car.

eBay Motors: Power ANTENNA Mitsubishi 3000GT Montero Eclipse Galant (item 200229860489 end time Jun-13-08 14:14:49 PDT)

It fit perfect and went well with the car.

:dsm:

Thanks for the link! Looks good to me...will be picking one up in the near future.

relax people... dude just got his shit together and finally has a running car, so what he payed more than you, dont bust on him and make him feel bad.

Good luck on the car.. will be dropping much more cash than 1800 in the future if you mod LOL

not trying to make him feel bad, but if the time comes again for something to be fixed on his car, he has better options other than that place he took it to so he knows next time.

I find it funny how people are trying to help him out and not get ripped off, and some of you are saying "as long as he's happy." Are you kidding me? He just said he is laid off and only has money for his bills. Wouldn't an extra 1k help him out?, sure it would. He got robbed, pure and simple.... And if he doesn't want us to chime in and help him out, don't post how much you payed....... :toobad:

Since your side skirts need re-painting, what do ya say we just trade cars? eh? :thumb:

LOL I love my car. I had a hell of a time finding it. They don't pop up often and I fell in love with it when I first went to see it. It's a shame it had a bad valve though. Pre-purchase inspection only covers so much you know?

Nobody is helping me out. It's just bashing kid. Do you see how people are just telling me I paid too much and telling me how much they paid for their parts and labor? How does that help me? I asked one guy where he got his stuff and how much it would cost to ship all the stuff needed. I got no reply. Multiple people have posted here and not ONE has referred me to a shop.

That brings me to my next point...I live in California. I see a lot of you aren't from here. I am pretty sure that the cost of shit in other states is at least a little bit cheaper than it is right here in the heart of the bay area.

Did I mention FFtec? :beatentodeath: They have the same rates as my mechanic and they are fully supported here on this forum. I am not taking away from them at all either. They do great work and have a lot of knowledge. My mechanic is just closer and with gas prices as high as they are right now...(4.79 in my area)...I can't justify driving that far. SORRY FFTEC!

Anyways...if anybody can reference some shops here in the bay area then please do. If I am, indeed, getting robbed then I would like to have an alternative.
