i have a 96 eagle talon non turbo... it dies out and than reve up and dies out.... it doesn't do when it idling only when pushing the gas down any ideas...

I am not 100% what all is required for these cars (yet) but with my experience selling parts, sounds like either a Mass Air Flow sensor (should be located on the intake tube from the intake and the air filter box,) the Throttle Position Sensor (located on the throttle body, opposite side from the throttle cable if it has one,) maybe an o2 sensor, or a idle air control valve. Since you say it doesn't do it when idling, you can most likely take the idle air control valve out. The mass airflow sensor measures how much air is being sucked into the engine, and tells toe computer how much fuel to add to make the ideal mixture, and the o2 sensor analyzes the exhaust gasses to determine if the proper amount of fuel is being burned by the engine. If either of those go out, your engine computer gets confused and tries to compensate based on only one sensor instead of both, which is a lot less reliable and can cause those symptoms. Finally, the throttle position sensor determines how far the throttle is open and helps decide timing, amount of fuel and other factors.

If your check engine light comes on, I would get that checked by AutoZone, since they will check that for free. If you do not have one of those, then Advance, Checkers, Shucks, or Kragen should do that for you for free as well. That will point you in a lot closer direction than those symptoms alone. Let me know if any of that helps!

Revving up and down is caused by the ISC "idle Speed Control Motor"

it bolts right on the throttle body, very easy fix!

That would make sense if it were happening when he was idling... but he said the problem wasn't happening at an idle, only when he hit the gas. That's what is pointing ME in another direction. DSMs are built quite a bit different from what I am used to working on, but again, every car that comes in needing an Idle Air Control Valve/Idle Speed Control Motor only has the rev problem at idle.

well I"m sure the mods figured this out now. But for the original poster, your new home is in the 420a section. Although I must admit some advice applied from the guys just giving it could be relavent with having to do with IAC and ISC's, but let it be known you don't have a MAFT or even the same motor for that fact. And your vac lines are located behind the intake manifold, follow where each of those leads to and try to make sure they are snug and secure and not leaking.

Like I said, I know I am a newb when it comes to these cars, but I am only trying to help narrow down what the problems could be with the symptoms that are given. If the car does not have a MAF, then that narrows it down even more, and its good information for us noobs! But, thanks for putting in your input, and I will try to keep my inputs more relavent to the specific car and motor... my bad!

Hey man don't apologize for what you said earlier, everyone who posted prior to me, was just under the impression that the original poster was a 4g63 type motor. It was only until a mod moved the thread to the correct secition could he by diagnosed correctly. Your on the right track.

how cold is it outside. it happened to me one time after i changed the oil. if it is cold and oil gets thick your motor will bog itself down. wait until it gets warm or warmer and see how it is. it might not be all those expensive parts

 That is not likely unless you using 90w.

if you saying the motor idles fine, then when you give it gas it bogs down before reving it could be a few things. it could be running rich because of a failing upstream o2 sensor. another problem could be your map sensor as well. The reasoning behind those 2 diagnosis' is the fact that the symptoms occur when you rev the motor, which leads me to believe its an a/f mixture problem.
