I know a guy who is looking for an engine designer:
---------------
ENGINE DESIGNER NEEDED

My preference:

Older dude who has at least one successful engine development under his belt. The better known in the industry the better. I have too many physics guys (no offense intended).

But I will accept a younger dude, I guess the most important thing is having developed an engine.
---------------

This guy is a venture capitalist and an "angel" (he starts/funds companies -- over 100 to date). He invented the programmable controller, teaches at MIT and Harvard, and hosts Geek Week at his "barn" in New Hamphire. He is definitely legit.

I have no idea what he has in mind, but he gets into so much advanced technology, this could be anything.

If interested, contact me directly at [email protected] and I'll put you in touch with him.

Here's hoping he gets one bright enough to get rid of the goddamned camshafts.

I thought that's what the rotary did? Eh, could be wrong.

By engine designer do you mean developing an entire engine from gorund up? Or do you mean someone who took an engine and redesigned/ changed things on it etc?

Here's some more information on the technology:

I have no personal interest in this, but if you get the job, you OWE ME big time.
I'll take one of those engines for my Eclipse as payment, if you can get 490 hp out of it.

Rotaries? With ports instead of pistons? If they're going to incinerate gas like an RX-8, and have similar low-end, then no.
Hydraulic valve actuation, set up like fuel injection. High-pressure engine oil blowing the valves open and spring closure. Variable timing, variable lift, variable overlap, and with technology that's almost on the shelf. Force the valves open with a controlled jet of oil, move the torque curve to wherever you want it for whatever driving conditions or performace effects you want. For many cars, you could even eliminate the need for a transmission. Get elegant about it, and you could even have hydraulic desmodromic valve operation, where you not only blow them open, but blow them closed as well.
