I'm wondering if I should just buy a brand new engine and drop it in myself. Due to the lack of DSM shops in southeastern wisconsin. How hard would it be to take out the engine and put it in myself. lets just say I got a longblock from slowboy or something.
Ive been trying to find shops around here in wisconsin but havent had luck. I spun a rod bearing and wanted to rebuild just the shortblock. anyone got any ideas for me. Im kind of lost.
thanks

Replacing the engine is not that hard. Most everything is straight forward.

However it really depends on how handy/mechanically inclined you are. It's a good piece of work but if you stay organized and do your research and have the right tools, you can do it. Takes me a weekend to pull an engine and reinstall with the help of 3-4 friends.

Last weekend was the first time I have ever pulled an engine out of any car. I spun a rod bearing on the dyno a month ago. Just make sure you have all the tools that you will need like a engine stand and cherry picker. If you are good mechanically you'll be fine. Just stay organized, I like to label everything so I never lose anything. ONE important thing is to take your time. If you get frustrated step away from the car for a few minutes. I should have mine back up and running Monday or Tuesday.
