Hello. I have been looking at DSM forums and i have found this one to be the most knolegable about the DSM cars. Ok heres my question, I have a 1994 Eagle Talon non turbo and i was wondering if it is an interfearance engine ### i want to have the block decked and the head shaved. Iwas wondering if that is a bad idea? Thank you..

Yes, your motor is an interference engine, just like the turbo 4g63. As far as having the cylinder head "decked", it should be alright... but at the same time you don't want to take too much material off. Find out what the manufacturer's specs are for minimum clearance volume and make sure you don't exceed that amount.

Another question though is why do you want to resurface the head and/or block? Were they damaged? Warped? Again, be careful when taking material off the cylinder head as this can problems (e.g. increase compression ratio, cause contact between pistons/valves, or change timing).

Yes i want to raise my compression.Do you think it will be a better idea just to shave the head and leave the block alone?

The reason I am doing this is becuase. I recently blew the motor so now I am going to do a rebult and bore it 20 over. possiblt get the head milled and possiblt shaved. I am also thinking about porting the intake. Any suggestions?

Buy higher compression pistons if you want to raise the compression. Removing material from the head and block is just going to cause problems.

Do you think if I only shave the head I will run nto poblems?

Yes, you still could run into problems. Piston-to-valve clearance and/or changed valve timing are headaches you do not want to deal with.

You really shouldn't resurface the head unless you need to because of damage, warping, etc. Like GVR4592 said, if you want to increase the compression ratio, using higher compression pistons is your safest bet.
