engine cooling questionable?

ok so lately, when i start my car up, the first 5-10 min of it running the temp. gauge almost hits the red and will stay there for about 3-7 secs then slowly return to normal. temp, but then sometimes it will do it again, but ill turn the heater on and feels like normal, no cold air blowing.....?

ideas? theromstat? water pump? blocked radiator?

Sounds like the thermostat is sticking.

If you can afford gas, you can afford a thermostat. If the thermostat sticks closed, you will probably warp the head.

Check the water level first, make sure it's full of coolant.

thermostat is like 15 dollars. if it is sticking and you dont replace it you could run into more problems soon.
