Can someone please give me the dimensions of the engine bay for a 2nd gen
A picture would be nice too please
I have a project some of u will like
but until then its a secret. :thumb:

i want to see how big of an engine i can fit into it, a picture would help greatly and some rough estimates of the engine bay size would be great, found a great deal on an engine and wanna see how small and light of a car i can fit it into, without it being an ugly car so of course an eclipse was first choice

If your into some crazy motor swap get a 2nd gen rx7 they are way lighter then a 2g. And for the recore I dont think you can put a better motor then a 4g63 into a dsm. Even extreme motrosports have turned there backs to the 4g64's due to it not putting down any better times then there 4g63 and they broke WAY less parts

Smewhere on these forums is a guy who put a chevy V8 in a DSM. It fit because he put the tranny in the front part of the center tunnel and made it RWD. A stock DSM has an engine AND a tranny under the hood. Remove the tranny from under the hood and there is plenty of room.

Huge help guys thanks alot and yes its a chevy small block 402 for 150 bucks brand new

and for the record 2nd gen rx-7 ugmo
i dont want a fast piece of shit, and 3rd gen too expensive but very sexy
im buying a beat the #### outta 95 eclipse and its gonna be a project car cus i didnt get to do anything to my old eclipse cus jiffy lube are ####ers

I don't have the pics, I just vaguely remember reading about it somewhere. I did a quick search for it but didn't find it yet. Maybe someone who is good at searching can do a little footwork here and turn something up? I'll keep trying. Hopefully the pics didn't get lost over time.

This would look badass in my engine bay......... to bad its chopped

LOL, i guess the drive shafts go directly to the crank, jack car up, start, kick out jack

GO

The hands down most hardcore swap i have seen is this guy swapped an Ls-1 motor into a newer RX-7, that would b a bad ace little car. He has a web site with tons of info on there ill tyr and find the link, he left the motor stock though which is kinda lame too me. The 20b 3rotor swaps also bad.

I think the 402 is considered a big block.

It's a Buick 455 w/turbo 400. There are some early pics posted in a thread regarding drifting. Search for RWD. Sorry to disappoint, but I won't be posting any more pics until it's finished. Here's why: I spent a better part of 2 years working through several hurdles on doing this 'mod' before I purchased a single part. So, I've done the research and my homework. Due to my many projects and job, I don't have an infinite amount of time to work on it but it is progressing well. I don't want to post a bunch of pics of what's done, to only give someone with a deep pockets and too much time the answers on how I did it. And then for them to beat me to the punch.

To get an idea of the difficulty, take a look at the front suspension. Now, think about how the engine will now be longitudnal in the chassis. There is a number of hurdles there. The crossmember, engine mounts, tranny mounts, radiator location, steering rack, and exhaust routing to name a few.

I will be posting pics upon it's completion. A lot of them. But until then, everyone can ponder.

Without even looking, I can tell you the engine wil fit in the engine bay, but it's how you construct the rest of the car around it that is crucial. Many hurdles.

I don't have dimensions of the 2g bay, but I do for the 1g.

yea its a 350 chevy small block im gonna try to bore out to a 402, gonna be a fun project while going thru mechanic school

drag car?

but if not, then i would go aluminum block, and push the engine real far back into the fire wall to try and get as much wieght behind the front wheels. Could even mate it to a 944 transaxle which would place most of the transmission wieght at the rear wheels, and would possibly allow for quite a ballenced car. just a thought

bad news,
not going with eclipse for the project car
decided on the international scout then a 240z
maybe in the distant future tho
lemme know if anyones interested in the progress of those 2 cars

well i hope your gonna put an rb45det in it then

You mean an rb25 (or 26) det in the 240z? He'd get way better results with a v8, expecially on pump gas.

Right, because any V8 is better than the RB25/26. :thumbdown
