engine bay rust ???

hi everyone i have a problem there is a substantial amount of rust in my engine bay and i am trying to clean it up i used a wire brush and drill and it seems to do nothing to the rust i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix this.

any input is greatly appreciated thanks.

im having the same problems on my strut towers... i was told that the rust areas need to be cut out and sheet metal welded in if its not cut out the rust will just continue to spread

yea i have also had the same problem i just grinded to there was no metal left.

I would try cleaning it like you have been doing and putting a rust neutralizer to atleast slow the rusting process. The neutralizer actually stops the chemical process that causes rust. Its worth a shot atleast. And you can paint over it.

I would do a combination of what the others said. Get rid of as much of it as you can, and then weld patches on if you need to. Then I'd hit it all with some rust neutralizer and then primer and touch up paint the area and you should be good to go.

Use some sort of rust inhibitors, you guys are acting like rust takes over no matter what. Use something like XORust or something of that nature, then rubbercoat/paint on top of that.
There's a zinc aerosol can I'm testing out, so far it works pretty well on bracket stuff. High humidity here and so far no flash rust.
