So if I block off the egr... Do I need that egr solenoid still?

Once you delete the egr there will be no need for the solenoid. Since you do not have an intake manifold yet you should try and score an evo 3 intake manifold or an rvr manifold.There is not an egr provision and its a nice cheap upgrade over stock.
