Im waiting on bs bearings but once i get them in i will be ready for assembly. Its been a long year of collecting parts LOL. But i was wondering what all do i need. I have purchase all permatex products because i have heard from my machinist that its a real good product. I have the copper spray-a-gasket, Hight tack spray-a-gasket sealant, and the red thread locker. I also have their assembly lube.....any thing im missing? What will i need to prime my oil pump...will assembly lube work or will i need something a lot thicker? Idk firstime build so input is appreciated thanks!

Some black RTV gasket maker is always handy :)

Use graphite assembly lube to pack the oil pump. I saw you had red loctite, but do you have blue? There are some things you will only want to use blue on. Dont forget blue shop towels :thumb:

You can use the black silicone for your oil pan,or a little bit on a seal if you want it to stick.

Honestly i only use gray RTV for my build these days. I used to use red and black but they all leaked within months. Gray and im running oil leak free 3 years. I went to autozone and got the tube u can get for a caulking gun for like 18 bucks which is 5x the amount that u get in a little tube for 6-7 bucks and its not a pain in the ass to use over and over. Also, youll need some assembly lube, i use the graphite moly lube you can find at advance auto parts (in my area). Get 2 tubes of it. Prime your oil pump with this as well, Just pack it in there pretty good and youre good to go. If you do not have the timing belt tool (look it up on vfaq) GET ONE. It is a ROYAL bi*** to do a timing belt job on these motors without one. Trust me, I know. The rest is just some random tools, time and patience. Good luck.

Guys around here are saying that "The right stuff" by permatex is the best at least for gasket maker on the intake side of things.

I always blow blocks out with compressed air and mineral spirits (or paint thinner almost the same) after they come from the machine shop.

Thats acct. the first thing i did when i got my block back...cleaned the s*** out of it LOL. My crank is already installed i have just been on hold due to the fact that the bs bearings are a royal pain in the ass to install. I have split two pair. So now i have to vaccum all the little metal shavings out, not a lot reallly, and blow my block out again. Than clean the crap out of the rod journals AGAIN LOL. Im not going to lie, im a clean freak when it comes to those parts. ive read to many horror storys to let 2k go down the drain. I have all of my parts for my block minus the ofh and bs bearings, but im to the point know where i might just take the block to a machine shop and have them install them. Block is sittn on a stand with a engine back securely wrapped around it and wd40 in cylinders. Been like that for 5 months and no signs of rust. I just wan to get this thiing together bad. And setting the timing assembly up kinda freaks me out, but i have both haynes and chilton manuals for a 1 and 2g....1g block 2g head... and whenever i get my head back from dsm graveyard i will hopefully be getting somewhere.

I split the balance shaft bearing too when I first tried installing them. So for the next one I went to Kragen/OReilly and rented, free with refundable deposit, their bearing install tool.

To do the rear simply slide the 1.750" tool onto your balanceshaft (put it on the end where the bolt goes in) and hammer the bearing in. The critical part is to make sure that the bearing goes in as straight as possible. The front is easy as you can use the tool as is (still using the 1.750").
