So I'm dropping my transmission out on Monday but I did find my leak already, about a dime's thickness crack on the end/5th gear cover. I did find a part number on an old thread here but he had a gst and I have a gsx. I just want to make sure I have the right part as none of these sites have pictures up. I imagine the cover is interchangeable but don't wanna buy until I'm sure. Part Number is MD742106

Part number for the AWD is MD741184. In general, very little is interchangeable between a FWD turbo and AWD transmission.

Really? Never owned the fwd but it just seemed like it would be one of those parts. Good to know. Thanks for the number man!

Brian HOw can there be only one end cap part number when the oil rails are different year to year? As far as I know the oil guide attached to the end case is not available as a separate part so there has to be another part number. I'm downloading ASA now. Lost it in the tornado.

I would be Brian is correct for 2g but this doesn't apply to all AWD all years. I'm having trouble with ASA or I would answer this myself. If you order a new case it likely does not come with the reverse synchro cone if memory serves and you will have to use the one you have. BTW if that is cracked how did it happen? Input shaft/5th nut loose?

I was implying that, for the OP's car, which is a 2G AWD M/T, the end case is MD741184.

The 1990 and 1991 AWD M/T end case is MD735344. After that, it switched to the same part number as the 2G.

Not sure. Haven't pulled it out yet nor have I separated the end case to see. This started last week when I trashed 4th gear (well, could be something else but that's my best guess right now) and limped her home. Was looking under the car and didnt see anything so I went to bed. Woke up to a mountain of gear oil on the floor. So these things seem pretty obviously related. I'll know for sure on monday when I get it out and opened up.

There isn't much in the end case. If you're having a problem with 4th either 4th broken and took out 5th/case or the5th nut came loose, took out the case and shrapnel took out 4th also. Look for more damage if you found that much gear oil. 5th/rev is way high up

Yeah. Guess we will see on monday. Going to order that part in the meantime. Also, that gear oil puddle was from like 9-10 hours of dripping. By no means a slow drip but not exactly a waterfall either. I'm going to inspect everything thoroughly before I call up my shop for an estimate. I know 4th is gone, but I'm just praying that any collateral damage, if any, is minor to non existent.

If you had any idea the kind of luck I've had lately, you'd be at least rooting for me LOL that said, I'm not counting on anything either. Just prayin like hell

Can't remember the site dude. Just type the part number in google. They're out there. Think I paid like 50 bucks for mine. Still waiting for it.

Make absolutely sure it's the same for your gst though. I want to say it is but that was disputed in this thread and I've never owned a gst. Download the mitaubishi ASA if you don't already have it. Super helpful.
