my cars original alternator dies about a week ago it was running 13.5 volts and droped to 11.7 everyonce in a while... So i went to advanced auto and got the lifetime warentted WorldWide alternator... put it in worked fine then for some reason it killed my battery which probably was a result of my old alternator. Anyway I had a new alternator and battery in now and it ran from 13.0v to 14.0v depending on what acc i was using. Then i shut my car off and turned the alarm on and POP there goes the 100a alternator fuse and my horn went off and just had a constant beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.... I replaced the fuse but right after my alternator died again and eventually the battery and i was almost down to 7 volts before I got a new one. OK so clean slate... NEW alternator NEW battery NEW Fuse.... went to GFs house and when I went to go leave turned car on and POP alterntor Fuse!!! AHHHHH its still there right now imma pick up a fuse and hopefully the alternator and stuff is ok ...This isnt costing my much beacuse both my battery and alternator are free replacements but I really need to find the problem is worldwide bad for eclipse ... its a 75amp alternator should i get a 80 amp fuse from the 1g eclipse HELP PLEASE!!!

No stay with the 100A fuse, that is not your problem. Often when the alternator fuse goes the horn comes on in these cars. And it's usually due to the theft alarm thinks the car is being tampered with. The theft alarm horn is a different one than the regular horn. Try to determine if it's the theft alarm horn going off. Also you can remove the theft alarm fuses to see if problem goes away.

Possibility for blowing the alt fuse is an intermittent short (see: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179481). A bad ground can also trigger the theft alarm, blow fuses, or cause very wierd problems (see: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179916). Also make sure all the fuses are good (see: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179914) as there are 5 of them that are used by the theft alarm. Or it may just be a bad horn relay, or shorted theft alarm diodes, or loose connections.

With all your blowing of alt fuses and blowing out alts and batteries I would first check for shorts (using the light bulb method in the link above).

For the 2g's the factory alts are 75A for 2.0 turbo, 90A for 2.0NT and 2.4.

do you have your lower heat shield on? if not put it back on. Alternators can fry with the heat from your exhaust, also a couple of drops of p/s fluid will kill an alternator. See if you ps pump is leaking.

hope this helps

i have an aftermarket 02 hosuing so i cant put the heat shield back on but a 20 minuite drive shouldnt heat soak a new alternator and PS fluid isnt leaking... I dont belive that its is anti thelft because its the normal horn that goes on and stays on also the headlights go on and stay on,,,:(

Advance auto parts', Autozone's and all other rebuilt alternators are complete junk. My autozone alternator went after only 500 miles. Now, I'm replacing it with another OEM unit. You might want to do the same thing.

A dealer alt is going to cost mega $. If you want a good alt at reasonable $ go to a place that just repairs alts and starters (see yellow pages) and get either new or used OR have them repair yours (which is where dealers bring theirs for repair). Never get one at an auto store unless maybe it's new (but even then the brands are usually poor quality).

But if you are blowing 100A fuses a new alt may not help (unless it is the short of course). You have a major short somewhere and need to find it. Disconnect the large cable from the alt and tape it up (don't let it or your wrench touch metal (to be safe you can disconnect battery while doing this)). Replace 100A fuse with a small 12V bulb or 12V test light and see if it lites. If it does, either that cable to the alt is touching metal or the short is somewhere else (since the 100A fuse also goes to many other things). Then go read my article on finding shorts to find it (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1496998#post1496998). If it doesn't lite then either your alt has the short or the short is not present at this time.

the short wasnt present... the car runs perfect for a while... Ill start the car drive somewhere drive back home turn my car on pop or ill drive somewhere and when i get back to my car try to start and pop :(... its not everytime I start, but every other time, one time it even popped turing alarm on.... one thing always happens though if this helps.... The low beams turn on and stay on and the door indicator light doesnt work at all untill i change fuse out....everything is fine after i change fuse like nothing ever happend untill it pops again.
