No. It would be virtually worthless-- it's too far away from the combustion chambers to accurately measure what's going on inside your engine. Plus with it being after the collector, it's not good either-- I can't remember the reason right now, it's late.

hmm I have seen ppl wrap there exhaust manifolds in insulation.. to keep the hot gas's from cooling or i guess realy from transfering the heat to the air in the engine bay.. but if that was done think it would be good enough to tell you if your starting to over heat ?

No, because the EGT probe location is still not in one of the manifold runners. I found the info I mentioned earlier about why that's bad. Go here for a good explanation:

hmm well then after the car is tuned correctly (and if it's a project and is compeletely finished far as engine mods go) do you need it anymore? i mean it's not sudenly goning to change far as runing goes... sooo the only thing you would need to know about temps then is if it is overheating which is of corse done by the water coolant temps as well...

or on a highly moded engine is it still a good idea to keep the EGT...?

also in that model they only had a probe on to see what the temps were on the #1 cyl... when they got the 1600*F temp.. not all the cyl will have the same temp.. so that does not seem to make much since seems would would need a EGT gauge for each runner to do it right...

and i think there experiment was done very poorly... they did not keep a consistant control and so the data is worthless realy.. although i agree of corse it will be cooler down the line from the cyl... just dont see how it could posibly cool 150+ *F in about a foot or so of pipe..


I noticed one other thing from my experiance 4cyl do not fire in a stright line of 1-4..
