The previous owner of this car bypassed the EGR by removing the vacuum lines to it (I guess he capped them off etc). The previous owner was a big hitter around here so he knows his stuff and I have alot of respect for him.

I was wondering if there would be any reason to bypass the EGR with a blockoff plate. I would guess that the EGR could leak even without vacuum aplied although it would be unlikely.

I am cheap bastard, but I was wondering if it makes any sense at all to just go ahead and get a blockoff plate since the throttle body is out.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Do w.e you want. Supposedly it wont open b/c there is no vacuum as you said but I didnt want the ugly egr setup in there especially if it wasnt doing anything. And if you can get to it easier now then why not. Dont forget if you dont want to eliminate the whole thing, you can just get a plate that fits in between the egr. 5 bucks ebay.

You are right....5 bucks off of ebay. Does the bastard require a gasket? Would some RTV work ok?

Thanks

If you know some one that tig welds you can weld it up. That's what i did so i dont ever worry about it leaking. Even with the block off plate you have a gasket that will eventually were out. If you dont know some one that can weld it i would then go with the block off plate.

Buy the plate...it'll look so much better. I have the plate and just bought a cheap like $1 gasket from Schucks. I applied a very very thin layer of RTV to ensure no BL's.

Thanks for the thoughts. I ended up looking closer (need glasses I suppose) and the egr is already sitting on a plate loool.
