I'm in the process of tracking down some oil burning and emissions issues on this '99 Spyder I acquired recently. My Actron OBD-II scanner, which reads I/M readiness monitors, gets to "system ready" on all the available monitors except: EGR system monitor. I believe the EGR system can affect oil consumption, so I'd like to see if I can get it to "EGR system ready" as part of what needs to happen for emissions testing. It never throws a code for the EGR system, just never gets to "EGR system ready". Does anyone have the pages from the FSM describing the EGR I/M readiness system in a 4g64, or know what the specific conditions need to be for the ECU to flag this as ready?

I'd also be interested in any suggestions or recommendations on the oil leak/ burning problem, which only happens after extended idle, so most likely valve stem seals. It seems to me there must be some be some mix of oil + additive that would work as a temporary fix.

Note: I believe this situation is similar to what's described in this Mitsubishi Montero thread. I did mess with the BISS and TPS at one point in the process of swapping the 4g64 head.

Besides the Actron OBD-II scanner, I also have a mini-ELM327 bluetooth device. The TPS usually reads 1% at idle and, for whatever reason, it usually idles right now at 900 rpm.

I need to resurrect this thread. Since the last post, I've done this in-frame rebuild , cleaning up the pistons and bore and it's now back up. No oil burning now at all. I'm back to wanting to figure out what needs to happen to get the last I/M monitors to "ready". Now 90 miles after rebuild, all the available monitors are "ready" except for EVAP sys and EGR sys. I found these two pages from the FSM for 2gs (attached pdfs).

The EVAP sys I/M did get to ready last time, but it's not getting there now. There must be a dsmer who has some experience with these drive cycles and doing them right to get the I/M monitors to "ready"? Are these drive cycles the only way the ECU gets to "ready" on these monitors ?
