I've been getting a P0400 code for egr system malfunction .... I think my exhaust valves may be leaking .. could that cause it to throw that code? Probably not right? Thanks.

Just a word of warning. When my car was throwing that same code, I replaced the EGR and that still didn't solve it. So then I replaced all the lines, still no good. I finally took it to a dealer and they spent a few hours going over everything. Finally ended up being a small plastic piece that some of the vacuum lines run into underneath the air intake. The $15 part cost me $300 for bullshitting around to figure it out along with replacing my functioning EGR. I was later told that EGR's usually don't fail that often, they just need a good cleaning with carb cleaner. So I guess learn from my mistake. :thumb:

well I don't have an egr system anymore since I was throwing a code anyways even with it in the car. Got rid of it and still same code but I can't figure out why. I think the valves are going though because sometimes my vaccum fluctuates, the car will smoke on startup, and it doesn't pull nearly as hard.

the boost solenoid??

No, I don't have a turbo so it couldn't be that. I was so pissed at the time that I wasn't really listening when they told me the name of the part. But it is about 1 inch long that screws into the block. Behind it is coolant, because when I unscrewed it to replace it, it all poured out on me. On the front part are two plastic nipples where vacuum lines connect to. One of these lines came from the EGR and the other from the TB. It was located on the left hand side of the block, just follow your vacuum lines down into that area. This could be completely different on a turbo set-up, not really sure on that. The device was simply clogged and didn't allow a vacuum reading and threw the code on me. Could be similar to what you have going on. Good luck :thumb:

Its probably when the system goes to check the EGR Temp, and, its not plugged in to tell ya, so it errors.

I pulled my EGR, randomly I get the EGR code, till I get a Federal ECU.

yea but this happened even with the egr still installed.

yea I didn't think so either I just wanted to make 100% sure. I think the valves may be ok as well ... now that I think about it the smoke at startup didn't happen until I got rid of the cat so I'm thinking that did it. Still clueless on why the code is coming on though ..
