egr block off

I did a little research and saw that you could just cut a coke can and drill holes in it for the bolts and bolt it up to block it off is that true or do i need rtv to seal it?

Idk but that is just asking for sealing issues. Buy the blockoff kits on eBay. They are a nice machined piece of metal with a gasket and bolts. $20 for mine.

I made one out of 1/8'' steel.. A pop can, I highly doubt would work. If you dont have the things to make one out of something fairly strong, buy the kit.. I used RTV just for re-assurance, it wouldnt hurt..

A pop can has worked on my car for 2 years now. The valve shouldn't be letting any exhaust through with the vacuum line plugged/capped/removed, so a solid gasket out of a pop can is just a backup measure. The EGR gasket I got with my engine gasket kit from Advance was the same thickness.
