EGR block off plate bolts stuck

im trying to get my egr block off plate off to drill a hole for a vacuum line for my 4 bar gm map sensor. the plate is mount on with some allen screws, and these suckers are tight. i almost broke my t handle allen wench trying to remove them. anyone have any ideas on how to get these things out?

Get a set of allen sockets at sears or any other parts store. Then you can use a ratchet and get more torque on it.

Why are you set on going there for your vacuum source? I just have mine teed into the line off my fpr.

Sounds like he's setting it up to datalog exhaust backpressure - at least I hope that's what he's trying to accomplish.

sorry whats a fpr. but because i was told it had to be a dedicated.

The vacuum line should be directly from the intake manifold, and as short as possible. Nothing else should be tee'd off of it either.

The area behind the EGR block-off plate is a port for exhaust gasses to travel (the "EG" in EGR stands for Exhaust Gas). You need to tap into the intake plenum to gauge boost pressure.

Behind the EGR plate are 2 holes, though. One goes to the head/exhaust and the other port goes to the intake manifold plenum. That's the one he needs to tap. It works well for me as a dedicated vacuum/boost source that's needed for good idle control in speed density. I'm the one that suggested it to him.

Also, buy a MAP gas torch instead of propane.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention on the Link forums. Try to match your hose barb fitting's inner and outer diameter with the MAP sensor you're putting on. That way you just have a hose going from the barb fitting to the sensor with no reducers in line.

Also, a little more background. On my car, I noticed a big improvement in idle with a dedicated port like this vs a throttle body port. I suspect the throttle body ports were just too small to get good vacuum resolution. Obviously this only applies to a speed density setup.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention on the Link forums. Try to match your hose barb fitting's inner and outer diameter with the MAP sensor you're putting on. That way you just have a hose going from the barb fitting to the sensor with no reducers in line.

I honestly can't remember. I just happened to have the right size laying around. If you take your sensor with you to the store, that should give you an idea of what you need. Then get the right size drill and tap to attach it to the block off plate.

cool will do. im still waiting on the sensor. so guess that postponed till next week. ok though gives me time to go buy so new tools

yea me to. only problem is theres no way it grab them. the head are dome type. ebay crap. if and when i get them out im going to replace them with nicer bolts
