ECU+ vs DSMLink

I would like to hear peoples oppinions on ECU+ over DSMLink. I have read alot about DSMLink and it sounds great, but ECU+ Seems like a more cost effective approach for a midgrade tuner and has most of the same features. Anyone have experience with ECU+ or both?

That's cool. I just saw that we were too... Did you run your 11.4 w/ EMS? That would make a strong point for EMS. As Shape hit 11.8 weighing 3350 lbs and w/ the same turbo w/ DSMlink... if his weigh in was the same as yours, that would still only account for a couple of tenths...

Nope. I ran the 16g with a dsmlink also.
That mph if not a great example of the car at that time. I was have a problem with it breaking up right past the 1000 foot mark. The fuel pump wasnt sealed right and would get air in the lines when i launched hard if i didnt have atleast a half a tank of gas. I never got a chance to get it back to the track with the 16g after getting that squared away but i am sure it would have picked up maybe a half a tenth (no biggie there) but more importantly I would say another 2mph.

I am running a aem now with my new set up. Which should be ready to hit the track again in the next couple of weeks.

Just ran across this thread now, thought I'd bring it back with a bit of ecu+ love

Unfortunately I gotta say that I haven't had much time tuning with it, since my car blew a headgasket shortly after I got it (knock sensor was loosened by previous owner). But the time I had with it was fairly pleasant. I got the plug-n-play option for the 2g, and was up and running in 10 minutes, just by setting the injector size. Tuning at idle and various throttle angles is fairly easy, and there are more than enough rpm points to tune. Granted, it might not be as nice as tuning each actual map in the ecu directly.

I was using the palm interface, and it's totally useable. Way more convenient than a laptop, for me at least. I only use the windows software for looking over the high resolution logs (which are awesome by the way, though the interface could use a bit of improving, like superimposing curves).

The only thing I wish it had was the ability to reset the trouble codes to help pass emissions tests.

It already has nlts in the works (or at least studderbox, but nlts shouldn't be a big difference).

I think it might even be possible to raise the rev limit by scaling the revs and doing some other juggling, but I haven't thought this through. I happen to not need this with my stroker anyway.

I like the wideband and boost logging, direct support for the gm maf (saved another $150 from selling the translator, the next version of dsmlink is supposed to support this too), boost control, etc etc.

The only area that is questionable to me is the injector size compensation. The usual symptom of too much timing shouldn't be an issue like with the safc, since you obviously have control over the timing. I don't have experience with tuning large injectors, but I'm not sure why you couldn't compensate for the dead time in the fuel curves. Some of you guys with more experience might be able to clarify.

Basically I feel the ecu+ will get me where I want to be (not much over 400whp), and those few things I had to give up are pretty well offset by the extra features and the money I saved. On the other hand, if I already had an eprom ecu, I would've gone with the link.

Well after fighting saying AEM is so much better than dsmlink, I now believe dsmlink is the way to go. Just got back from the dyno and the dyno shop before said aem is so much better, but now they say they like dsmlink and its the way to go. They said just getting a dsm to idle on aem is a challenge. I am now a soal believer of dsmlink.

Well I guess that makes a new question does anyone have problem running large injectors with dsmlink since its just a piggyback?

DSMLink is definitely NOT a piggyback! And there are zero issues with using very large injectors. Even 950s run fine.
