Could someone make a ECU that fits in the double din radio spot, that is touch screen to change and program the car for what ever you usually can change? Just have diff harness that will be like a jumper from it to the stock ECU plugs for different vehicles?
and maybe even have a built in radio and plugs/harness, so you dont lose that option
I'm just brain storming here, But I bet it would sell like crazy
It would look like the gps systems built into the dash of newer vehicles

I think you misunderstand what you need in order to make alterations to an ecu but there is a solution for this that is actually quite elegant for H8 and evo8 ecu users.

sure you could, and i suppose it really wouldn't be to terribly expensive.... all you would need is an ecu that is capable of on the fly tuning like an aem ems or haltech or something like that with a very user friendly interface, build your self an in car computer and hook it up to one of those double din size touch screen monitors. i suppose you could do the same setup with a mega squirt instead and save a grand, just the MS interface isn't all that good looking. as far as i know there really isn't anything setup as a standalone system yet unless you are willing to pay $10,000. you could probably set up a cheap computer with a mega squirt and monitor for $600 - $700

jackal allows real time tuning if you use an emulator, plus then you get to have speed density and ditch your shitty maf. Jackal is also free and uses your stock ecu. As said you could just run that and then make a carputer, either a laptop under one of the seats, or a pc in the trunk and just hook them upto a touch screen radio. Laptop may be easier and you can get lighter jack adapters for them so no need then to use an inverter.

No I mean have everything all in the one unit.
just unplug your ecu and plug those wires into the back of the adapter cables.
kinda like a plug and play ecu, that you can monitor and change what ever you want on the car.
kinda like a radio, you buy it and a plug for a certain car. plug it in and set/program it for whatever car. and have fun.
It was one of those half awake ideas.

yea i suppose it could be done, sure..... right now i would guess the two closest things would be either APEXI with their hand held programmer or a mega squirt if they have their standalone programmer done and working... MS would probably be easier to bundle into a package like that i would guess. i am sure it could be put together into a double din radio chassis and made to work. might want to get the paperwork together to get the copyrights before the guys that build mega squirt get ahold of this.... currently it is only a display but i am sure if you could sell the idea they would be willing to look into it.... a mega squirt in a double din chassis with this on the front would be kind of sweet..... that IS pretty close to what I had in mind. but that display looks like some windows 95 stuff.
I guess somebody beat me to the idea. I had no plans on building one, just throwing ideas out there.

well like i said if you wanted it all in one unit you would have to assemble it your self. that setup is about as close as you can get as far as i know but it would be do-able for the most part.
