ECU Good/Bad

Well, i bought a Eprom ECU off a board member. I had asked it the capacitors were ok, he said it looked like they have been changed. I got the ECU today. It looks like one of the capacitors went bad (there is some discoloration around the area, brown color). A new capacitor seems to have been soddered into place. It does not look like it damaged any other parts. I will try and take a pic tonight, i have borrowed out the camera for a hour or so. Think the ECU will be ok?

Also, the ECU seems to be covered in a kind of film of some sort. I dont know if its from the capacitor going up our what. Is that normal?

i had same prob with my original ecu. 1 cap went bad so i replaced all 3 and my car still wouldnt start. even tho the ecu board looke in good condition it was bad. there is a protective coating on the board. if u scratch it it will come off. i hope it is ok, mine wasnt even tho it looked good. i got another ecu and my car started so i did have a bad ecu.

sorry to say this, even tho the pic wasnt too clear... your ecu looks worse. whoever soldered it did a real crappy job too.

great just want i wanted to hear :thumbdown: I guess my only choice is to hook it up and see if it works.

sorry. but hooking it up is the only way to really tell. just because mine didnt work doesnt mean your wont.

hey at least be happy. Unlike me, i ended paying $613 for 3 95 ecu's because my car blew the ISC(Idle Speed Controller) resistors on 2 of them while the third ecu had enough bad traces that we were gonna end up wiring all of the points. Thats a dsm for you

yeah, i guess if it doesnt work im only out $100 bucks....and i can afford that...but it still sucks
