Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone of you have tried to take out the ECLIPSE raised decal from the center tail light and convert it to SPEED and glue it back on. Is it hard and is it still holding after you glued it back together. I really like that convertion and want to put it on mine but I am not sure whether after I take the ECLIPSE out it will be able to be glued back on the tail light good enough and not lose letters in car washes. If anyone has done it could you please advise on what you did and how you did it. What tools did you use.

Thanks,

Svetlin

I try to keep car away from automatic car washes since they can be quite rough on undercarriages.

I would have bought the letters but the price is really unreasonable - $40 for a set of letters. I would rather spend these money on some upgrade for the car. Was just curious whether anyone have attempted doing this conversion without buying the letters.

Thanks,

Svetlin

P.S
BTW, I do not do automatic car washes either, it mess up the paint sometimes...

Iv seen it done before, although i cant remember where, Maybe on Mach V's website. If I was you I would try to find the letters on ebay, maybe a dealer will have some that they are selling at wholesale.

They have the letters on Ebay. The only way to do it is to buy new letters, you cannot just remove the letters and glue them back on, the car is more the five years old.

The only car I have seen it on is a Red 2Gb Eclipse with EDM taillights, and he had the SPEED decal across the back. It looked ok, although I like how I have my ECLIPSE letters right now. :thumb:

Yes, if you don't want to spend the money on new letters, you could probably pry them off gently, clean them up, put on new adhesive (or a 2part epoxy) and re-attach them to the back once again. buying new letters may be the way to go though, becuase they may crack when taking them off, even if you're careful

only problem i see with that, and i'm totally lost as to why no one else mentioned this....

i cannot seem to find a "D" in the word ECLIPSE

???? or am i missing something?

And, to make the "D" you flip the "C" around and attach the "I" to it and voila.

that's what i was thinking... but figured that would look half-assed in my opinion. buy new letters and be done with it

You just turn the C around, don't attatch the I, just make it an open D, it looks better that way.

i suppose an open ended D would look much better than attaching the I

try a sign shop that does 3-d letters, they could hook you up too. I've done them in the past (i work at a vinyl shop part time), it's kinda neat stuff. it's a resin that goes over the vinyl, and raises it up about 1/16" to 1/8" thick, and they can then do any style letter you can imagine. just another thought for you.

Hi,

I like that idea better. Can you give me some hints on where to find such shops? Do you have any in your area that I could contact. I thought it is hard to do raised vinyl letters and haven't search around but if I have the ability to put any sign on the tail light I would do it, maybe use a different font as well :)

yep, just as i suspected... the D looks very, ummm, UNCOOL! whoa, had to think back to highschool for that one!

as for the vinyl lettering, check your yellow pages for sign shops, and ask them about it. but don't be surprised if many local shops do not know about it. it is kinda pricey to get into it, and there is not really a big demand for it. that's why our shop does not do it anymore. it was a fairly high priced buy in for the kit to do that stuff, and it only has something like a 3 month shelf life. and it's not terribly popular, so usually the gel/resin would go bad before it's gone. however, i'm looking to buying the shop before next year... so i may bring it back and do some marketing around town for that stuff. i think it is really cool, and have some great connections to car places (since i work at a stereo shop now) and i think i could sell that stuff!

good luck in your search for it. seeing as how your in a big city, i bet you may find it, but it may take a while and a LOT of calls. but someone is bound to know about it!
