ebay turbo

Looks good, but you know that one of the vendors on here sell these exact turbos on ebay. I have had one for about a year and its been running perfect for me, although it's only been at 12psi. Either way good luck. I say go for it, but that is my .02 cents.

I'd be a bit cautious. I couldn't see where they said where it was made. Likely made in china and I just don't have confidence in the quality of most of the stuff coming out of china...yet. Look at the cost of a real quality turbo. You're looking at about 3 times that amount.

One of the guys I work with is a honda guy (boo...hisss :D) and he knows turbos fairly well. I didn't even ask him about these ebay ones and he warned me about some bad experiences some of his friends had with these. The price is almost too good to be true so watch out.

disclaimer: Of course some people will likely pipe up and say theirs has lasted 5 years with 500 horsepower. There's always gonna be exceptions.

It seems to be hit or miss with the chinese 16g's. Some people have great luck with them, others dont. It's a gamble.

exactly, it chinese. It all depends on what kid made it that day LOL. there was someone in the classifieds that was selling a true 16g for a good price check that out.

Dude I bought an evo 3 16g turbo on ebay for $350 bucks and less than 9 months later - after being babied and only ran on stock boost - it has serious shaft play in it. I wouldn't do it. Ebay turbo's are garbage, I know first hand.

It's no secret they use junk bearings. Just replace them with garrett t3 bearings, and it will work forever. There's a thread on here somewhere about this, just cant remember where. The seals are all mitsu though.

There are some threads here about ebay turbos where some have had great luck and others have not. Also you will here the stories of well a friend of a friend had one and it blew up in three days they are junk. I can tell you from personall experience that I had two and they both blew up within 2000 miles and thankfully there was no engine damage. If you have your heart set on a 16g some of our supporting vendors sell them for around $500.00 and you are getting a real mhi 16g which will last you for a long time. it is your choice but spend the extra $200 or so and get a real one because that one is a knock off from china. Just my .02 and good luck with your choice. Travis

I've heard that since the shafts were breaking they thickened the shafts. Should have just used something other than pot metal. But I also heard you have to use Garrett T3 bearings when you rebuild it.

my buddy bought this exact turbo and put it on his 96 tsi, and ran it around 20 psi for a few months...boosted strong and stayed that way until the day he spun a rod bearing and sold it to another guy on this site. i would deff go for it

I have an ebay 16g on my car, The only problem i had with it was the wastegate actuator arm was stuck but after i fixed that its been fine.... Deffnitly a good deal if your on a budget!

Thanks every one for there input. Thank you Absolute. I have decided to go with an ebay turbo only from punishment racing they seem like every one here agrees if they are willing to stand behind them. Than they must be working good.

Yeah that ebay link you have at the begining of this thread show non other than the infamous 16g GT turbo, well known to be a low-budget turbo... and real bad quality on my personal experience, I've seen here locally 3 guys who have had nothing but bad stories with these (no lie).

Definitally go with a MHI 16g turbo from a reputable vendor, I got my evoIII 16g from extremepsi and running good well after 16k miles of use and abuse well worth the money considering people who go with low budget turbos end up paying double or more in the long run.

LOL to be honest only 1 pro with mine the wastegate actuiator arm but other them that.. they can take a beating.. maybe its 2 out of 5 or vise versa but i guess u never know.

NO KIND OF WARENTEE SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING-a real mhi will run for 100,000 miles or more!Ebay your lucky to get 5-10k

So where is the savings? And who wants to rebuild a turbo they just bought,it would then cost the same as a real mhi and no resale value

Mhi's dont have warranties either. Even if they did, you honestly think a vendor is going to honor it? A few guys in town have the ebay 16g with great results, and I will be buying one shortly.

i just put that same 16g on and its been months and i havent had any problems with it. does anyone know what the stock psi is on that turbo i think mine is 25 but im not possitive

Stock psi is around 10....so you think you're running 15psi more than stock but you're not SURE?

I would hope a vendor would honor it as long as it hasnt been all boosted to hell and taken apart.Mhis have NO war.?

i would not purchase a turbo off ebay, but thats just my opinion, to many bad experience with "new" but have shaft play turbos LOL
