Ok so I'm wondering if anyone has used eBay turbo rebuild kits and if they are any good? I have a Pte gt3255 wich is a journal bearing turbo, the guy at pure turbos told me I need a rebuild kit for a garret gt35 an it's $165 on there website, but I found the samething on eBay for $20 I believe the name of the company is green source, just wondering if anyone has experience with eBay rebuild kits and if they work an hold up just as good as the expensive ones, thanks

Justin is the best source of information for this kind of thing. Ebay turbo rebuild kits are hit or miss IMO. Gpop shop has a nice selection for a good price. Talk to Justin.

Ok thanks for the info, I was just kinda sceptical because there's a big difference between $165 down to $20 for two different kits that include the same parts

If you want the rebuild to last buy a real rebuild kit. If you want the turbo and possibly your engine to fail go for the $20 rebuild kit. One kit is made for the turbo and one kit is made by a guy dreaming he could make the turbo LOL.

Would you use an eBay turbo? Then why would you use an eBay turbo rebuild kit? Let's put it this way- if the factory parts wore out and caused a failure, you're under the impression that the eBay parts will last longer?

Also curious where you're finding a complete GT32 parts kit for $20....that's not a popular turbo, so the parts aren't easy to find.

Ok thanks guys didn't figure they wld be any good was worth a shot tho, and ya I couldnt find parts for it anywhere an I called pure turbos an he said the only way to get a rebuild kit witout sendin it to Pte is to use a garret gt35 rebuild kit he said the internals are the same, believe me I no how hard it is to find parts for this turbo I been tryin everywhere its drivein me insane,

The OEM Garrett parts kit you need is 709147-0001. Give that number to G-Pop Shop and they should be able to help you.

Otherwise, BAE Turbo has the parts kit for $60....but their stuff is eBay quality at best: Turbo Service Kit for Garrett GT32 709147-0001

I have an FP turbo and when it went out, due to abuse and neglect on my part, I sent it back to them to rebuild it. The were quick to perform the work and I have confidence in knowing that it was done right. I typically do all of my own work, but rebuilding a turbo is not something that interests me, so I left it to an expert.

Ya I should have deffenetly done that because I just broke the shaft tearing it apart, this is a nightmare

Throw it away- you're screwed.

By the time you pay for the repair parts plus the new turbine and a rebalance you're well in excess of what the turbo itself is worth...and in the end you'll still have a GT32 with a weak thrust system.

im sure you already learned your lesson by taking that turbo apart. just because something is small doesnt mean its simple by any means especially a turbo. a cheap rebuild always cost more in the long run but as justin said your screwed. i would look at the classified ads on here since people are always selling turbo's and some are in good shape.

Its one thing I learned about rebuilding cheap ebay turbos from Justin and experiance myself... they are cheap, the kits dont always work... and for some odd reason there seems to be extra peices laying around

It wasn't the rebuild kit I was getting bearing an seal sizes for gpop shop an i didnt realize the nut on the compressor wheel was reversed thread till I alrdy snapped it off, this was a very sh###y day, so I'm guess a turbine shaft is pretty pricey? Just sucks that Presicion is so stingy about Salein replacement parts.

Ya good point, that sucks I really liked that turbo, any suggestions on something similar to the gt3255 that has a stronger thrust system for a deccent price? You really have a lot of good info man hope Im a Dsm god like that someday

If memory serves me the GT3255 compressor is 55/75mm or thereabout; that would put it in the realm of the Garrett T04E50, Holset HX35, or Borg S256. A 20G hybrid like the Old-school FP Green would also be a contender.

Thanks justin I appreciate all the info, I'll check them all out and see what I like an can afford

The ebay rebuild kits we got were just a slight mm smaller or larger. The ebay shaft is not always a precise diameter. We tried rebuilding a ebay turbo with a good kit and it would not work because of this. Also the new compressor would not go on the turbo. Their qualty of parts is just poor. Buyer beware is all I would say.
