My friend recently bought a turbo kit from XS-power which came with a t3-t4 turbo that reads AR 50 at the bottom, does that mean it is a fifty trim or am I just to much of a newbie. He bought the kit for his honda prelude but is not going to install it do to lack of funds. I am considering buying the kit and just selling everything that doesn't work for my dsm. Does anyone know if I will have problems putting this turbo on my car? I understand that XS power is not the best of quality but has anyone tried this on their car? I would love to have a full Garrett but the money just isn't there at least not for a couple of years so I figured If I didn't try to push the turbo real hard maybe a goal of 290 or 300 horsepower could be realistic. Well any opinions on why not to buy this kit or any opinions at all will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!! Thanks

P.S. He only wants 400.00 for it he paid 800.00 less then two months ago and it has never even been taken out of the box(he does oh me favor though)

I honestly feel like doing DSMTuner's a big favor, dishing out the money and just buying one of these P.O.S kits and writing a review about it, w/ dyno and all.

Hi there, I would stay away from xs power.. :notgood: First off i bought a header for my eclipse from theese guys and is not even welded correctly.. The header pipe hits my head before i can even tighten the header down..Im still waiting hear back from them. and i bought it 2 months ago and i just got my motor back from machien shop and now its over 45 days and i cant even file a claim with paypal.. also save your money buy a 16g big 16 or evo3 turbo.. stay away from the evo3gt.. Im in the market for buying a new turbo and ive been reading forums as well and ive heard nothing but good about the big 16g or evo3. When it comes 2 turbos you get what you pay for. go with somthing like from extremepsi.com or turbochargers.com or slowboyracing.com as they offer good warranty and peace of mind that your getting a true product.. after all its the turbo that makes the cars.. just my .02cents... :dsm:

also.. I see that turbochargers are selling a few turbos on ebay now which there only ones i would even consider... but the evo3 16GT is a knock off and not a true MHI.. not saying its a bad turbo but theres alot of discussion in the forums and i havent heard neone running it.

Do not buy one. My buddy bought a evo3 16g GT and it was a knock off.Anyway it went out after 1500miles.The compressor fins hit the housing :notgood:

The .50 A/R on your turbo is a measure of the compressor housing. It is defined by Garrett as: the inlet (or, for compressor housings, the discharge) cross-sectional area divided by the radius from the turbo centerline to the centroid of that area.

To figure out the trim of the turbo, you need to divide (inducer diameter^2/exducer diameter^2)*100.

The quality of those kits has yet to be determined, but with the risk involved I wouldn't do it.

If you are just looking for 300hp for under 500, I would strongly recommend the Evo III 16g. A recent price war has brought the price down to a comfortable $435 range from several of this site's vendors. They are made to last, very streetable, and proven to perform.

I bought the Evo III 16-G Ported from XS and it works like a champ. I have had no problems with it other than getting too much boost, which is my fault because I was using the factory o2 housing and not the Evo III 02 housing, which I just bought, it's 20% bigger than a ported factory o2 housing. I agree with the fact not trust any of their exhaust manifolds, all their bad posts are about the mainfolds. I have hardly seen any complaints about their turbos, because they don't make the turbos, they just resell them. The Evo III is not the cheap Chinese knock off, it is the real deal, I had Mitsubish verify it. Yes their customer service totally sucks, but it is the chance you have to take.

i owned a t3 from xs power and it worked fine with my dsm..now the manifolds i would trust..but the turbo itself it reliable..how does anyone know for sure if these turbo's are junk unless they own one to try it for them self ? I would know becuase i owned one ..and they work fine..i put out 25 lbs on my t3 and it pulled just as hard as any other t3 ive seen out there..id say try it out since you have the kit right in your face...do it

ive thought about buying a kit just to try it and review it too , to settle the score once and for all...... so i guess in 2 weeks when i order one ill let ya know. but i emailed the guys who bought the kits for dsms and theve all told me good things, apparently the turbos you need to watch out for are the ones with " BLACK TAGS " on them.......... beacuse them and ssautochrome got too many complaints and started getting their turbos from a diff company.

thanks for everyone's opinions although xs received some okay reviews I think I will save my money and go with somthing more proven. I'm not saying that xs sucks or anything but I think to save myself the hardship I better go with something that many dsmers have had success with,
Thanks again
