Ebay TD05 20G - my experience

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I dont have a 20g but I do have the ebay 16g that I ordered maybe 2weeks ago, it said it was ported and both the exhaust side and compressor were way bigger in the opening than my 14b, so i do believe mine was ported, the 16g pulls a lot harder than the 14b, for now.

In comparison to your 14B:

- The 16G is NOT "ported", but the exhaust housing is cast from a ported MHI Evo III housing. The 16G housing will feature a 7cm2 (volumetric) turbine inlet and a 2.5" turbine outlet compared to the 14B's 6cm2 turbine inlet and 2" turbine outlet. If you're still using your stock o2 housing, there will be a huge restriction as it's designed to mate up to the 14B's 2" oulet

- The turbine wheel of the 14B and the 16G are identical, but the compressor wheel is indeed bigger.

Why do you know so much? LOL

Now that I read your thread I should of gone with the 20g, but didnt see very many people on here with experience on that one, but oh well.

I went with the 20g because the ebay 16g had already been tested. I wanted to start a thread like this to see how the 20g held up. So far everything is good on the utrbo end of things. Driving a DSM is frustrating though with all the problems you encounter. "DSM - If it ain't broke, it will be!"

That is basically what I intend to do. Use this turbo till it craps out and then buy a big Garrett turbo.

How well does that 20G regulate boost?

The reason I ask is the 16G's have a 34mm flapper, but only a 22mm hole in the housing. They're HORRIBLE at regulating boost around 15-20psi (spikes / creep).

This is how the eBay 16G's look from the factory:

This is how they look when I get done with them:

I was just curious if the 20G's were the same way, or if they've done something to fix it.

it is the exact same way, 34mm flapper - 22mm hole. However I never get boost creep. I have a ported SS 02 housing, and an APEXI 2.5-3" downpipe. Oh and I have a high flow cat. I run 20psi daily and NEVER get the boost creep i was expecting. It holds boost right where I set it with the Hallman boost controller. I am assuming that the cat is whats really helping controll creep.

Kinda offtopic, but how's that dsmchip stuff working out for you. Any fine tuning with the SAFC needed or are his settings dialed in perfectly? Log? Knock?

I did alot of research and spoke with Jeff, owner, several times before I decided to go with it. The car runs great and so far the chip has been doing its job. I have not fine tuned it with an AFC but even Jeff says you should because every car is diferent. The knock sum gauge that replaces your factory boost gauge is awesome too. I was getting knock when I first installed it and i tracked it down to low fuel pressure. Fixed that problem and haven't had knock since. Just email him if you are interested.

I really wonder if the Ebay 20g's (or so called) really moves more air than the standard Ebay 16g.... It might be a situation where they just rebadge the 16g's claiming that they are 20g's. Regardless, I want nothing to do with either of them.

im with you on that i garuntee you measure this turbo its a 16g copy

I am running a dsmchip also no fine tuning at all and ran a 12.1@116 on a evo3. Also the headstud thing on e85 running 30psi stock gasket and studs. Bottom end also stock. It seems these ebay turbo are working decent wonder if they would hold up at 30psi.

What can I say, you got one of the 20 turbos that Chinese manufacturer made that didn't fail. Apparently they just happened to get everything aligned properly upon assembly.

How the hell did you rack up 30k in 6 months? OMG You put more miles on in 6 months than my father does in his Freightliner.

MY very first car I had was a 88 Hyundai Excel. My dad gave me a gas card, I managed to put 16,000 miles on the car in 2 1/2 months. Popped the motor because I didnt know I was supposed to change the oil ( This was 18 years ago ). To say I drove a lot is an understatement.

255 pump, FIC 650's running at 60% DTC and a Fuel Lab's FPR. I do not have a wideband. I will get one though. For now I have been watching my O2 voltage on my pocketlogger to somewhat keep track of the AFR.

Watch out for timing pulled from knock also. Stock o2 sensor is almost always off. I go down to the Camden area every now and then. I'd love to take a look at your setup and see the quality first hand. :)
