Hey I'm ditching my 38mm internal wastegate on my gt14 in favor of a 60mm external of the o2 housing. I was gonna just take the arm off and leave the flapper part installed as it would just shoot open anyway but I said why be ghetto and lazy and just ask to see if there's a easy way to remove the flapper withough getting to crazy?

By the way I'm not real worried about boost creep as I will run 20-25psi all the time anyway.

dont be ghetto about this, trust me. your going to have to remove the turbo and have the flapper welded shut if you want to go external.

if he runs the external off the o2 housing likes hes saying he can just let it hang. the right way is to take the shaft and flapper out and put a nut and bolt through the hole where the shaft would go. im not sure what exactly is involved in taking out the flapper.

what we do on these conversions is with the turbine housing off the turbo cut the flapper door arm inside the housing before the flapper with a plasma cutter. Then use the remainder of the arm as filler for the hole in the housing. Weld the remaining arm to fill the hole and then grind it flat so it looks like there never was a flapper there. :thumb: A local shop should be able to do this for you.

PS- YOU ONLY WELD THE DOOR SHUT IF YOU ARE MOUNTING THE WASTEGATE OFF THE MANIFOLD.

Thanks you are the first person to give a sensable answer. I am no noob just was curious as to any shortcuts on how to remove the flapper I know how to uninstall it but its' a pain in the ass. The first two guys externals of the o2 housing require that port to be open hwo else will exhuast be routed out threw the external??? Thanks for trying to help out but both of you are mistaken welding is what I DON'T want to do.

Why not?? It iwll do the job and it is setup like a tial bov with a v clamp so it will be easy to install without buying a new o2 housing and if i'm lucky I won't even have to weld the dump tube will clamp right ont to wastegate but I don't that will happen.
