My 96 gst /w 1g swap wont start and someone told me to run a wire from starter solenoid to battery. I did some research last night but still don't know what to hook the wire up to. Will 16 gauge wire work? Any help is appreciated... If this gets it started I'm probably going to be hooking up a start button unless its easy to replace solenoid(In which case I just connect starter wire to 12v wire in ignition harness iirc?).

also, is it possible for a newb like me to replace a clutch? What tools do I need for that? 95 tsi wont engage fully(I press gas and rpms go up but I dont accel)

Thanks,
Newb

yea 16 gauge is fine it doesnt really matter and you hook it from the tab looking thing (not the bolt) and touch the other side to the positive end of the battery. MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS NOT IN GEAR

wow very fast response, looking for what you're talking about now

is there something Its under I need to remove for easy access? I think I found starter but not 100% sure. The relay is behind radio right? Would there be an easier way to do this behind radio?

Put the wire between the nut and the wire bracket with the red rubber on it on the solenoid and touched the other end to positive with the key in ignition turned on and nothing happened... I guess starter is bad?

Ok so Docb helped me over the phone and now its confirmed that my starter is bad. Do I need to buy a 1g starter or a 2g for a 2g with a 1g swap? Thanks

U can buy either starter 1g r 2g..there the same thing..but I would prefer buying the 1g starter since its a lil bit smaller u have more room to maneuver with while installing.....hope it helps.

Are you still planning on dropping the tranny and wanna know what tools to use?..

...And back from the dead. This thread is about a year old. Good information, but the OP probably figured it out by now.
