Eagle Rod cap discoloration w/ pics

Hey I am in the process of tearing my engine apart so I wanted to get people's opinion on this rod cap, it is discolored only on the cap side the rest of the rod looks perfectly normal.

A bit of background this motor has around 45 min of idling and 15-20 min of driving max. I spun 2 bearings and the rest look questionable. The part that confuses me is the other spun bearing rod looks normal while this one doesn't?

Here are the pics what are your opinions on it? the rod cap isnt deformed or anything like that its just discolored, is it safe to put back on?

I put a normal rod cap beside it for comparison fyi

I'd replace it. When spun a bearing with my eagles it did the same thing, and I replaced it. Eagle rods are so cheap anyway, I got one it for like 35 bucks shipped, it didn't have the bolts, but you should be able to reuse your's.
 
You might as well replace the rod because you cant just throw on a new cap and call it a day...

It will need to be line honed to make sure its a nice even hole...

If you buy a new rod, you'll get the rod/cap and ARP bolts...
 
I was afraid of that, any suggestions to where I can get a new eagle 6 bolt rod? Replacing the crankshaft was a given seeing how i spun bearings, and i got a polished stock crank which is good to go.
Crap i just realized that means I have to remove the pistons and to do that I need to remove the cylinder head, of course that means a new headgasket... god this thing will be the death of me.
 
The heat was caused by the spun bearing. Be sure to find the cause of the bearing failure before reassembly. If you decide to replace only one rod, be sure to match it's weight to the other three.
 
Thanks JAM, last winter I had an oil pump fail on me and I thought I caught it in time. I replaced all the bearings and polished the crank but apparently there was still particles left over in the oil gallerys.... I ordered 2 new eagle rods (plus a new polished crankshaft) just in case as another rod has some browning on it and I dont want to do this again in a month. Any tips to really really clean out the block/head/oilpump to make absolutely sure all the particles are gone?
 
You need to strip everything down completely, head, lifters, rockers, turbo, oil lines, oil cooler, rods pistons, squirters, and clean it all with brake cleaner, it should take about 10 cans to do it right. Make sure to blow all of the oil galleys with brakecleen, and compressed air. You would do best to get a new oil pump, oil cooler, squirters, and lifters. Also, pull the allen head plugs out of the head to clean the oil galleys.
 
10 cans of brake cleaner? are you crazy? Thats enough to make my entire house explode into a giant fireball! Damn and i disassembled my oilpump and am glad to note there are no shavings of any kind in there, working on the head. Ill do as much as I can but why the lifters out of curiosity the hole the oil enters is much to small isnt it? So far as I can tell most of it went straight into the oil pan, and even then there isnt that much material. Just seems a bit excessive I guess, I understand if a camshaft broke or something but how would the particles get into the head? Wouldnt the oil pickup tube block them?
 
When you assemble an engine, it needs to have 0 particles of any size, anywhere inside it. After all, the bearing clearances are about .002", so particles around that size can wreak havoc on the bearings. Your comment about ""extreme" on the cleaning, gives a hint at your current engine failure. If i were you, i would have a shop clean, and assemble the block. I'm willing to bet that no amount of brakleen flushed through the oil cooler will result in a clean flush into a coffee filter with no particles.
 
Yea i obviously had no idea a spun bearing required all that work! I have looped the oil cooler lines for now until I can get a few funds for a new oil cooler. Then i did the complete tear down like you said and lo-and behold i found little particles in the strangest places. The worst were in the oil squirters, there were tons of flakes in there. After cleaning I blew everything out with compressed air, and did it again. I even put on surgical gloves when I put in the bearings haha! I just hope it was enough, but we will see shortly.

P.S Not to cause problems but I never said "extreme" I said excessive, that being said I appreciate your help because you were obviously right!
