e-brake question....

I have to pull my e-brake pretty far back for it to grip well. I dont know much about how the e brake system works. Is it somethin i can just tighten or re calibrate myself? I've opened up the center console to do soemthin to my shifter, so i know how to get to the e brake.... i was jsut wondering if this problem can be fixed from up there.

There is something under the center console that you can turn to tighten the ebrake. My friend did it to mine so I'm not exactly sure what it is but it's there and it takes no more than 10 seconds and one hand to do.

Once you pull the center console out of the car there's a cable and a box sitting there that you can see where the ebrake is by. If you pick it up and put it back down a couple times you will see the end that you have to tighten.

Get a small open end wrench and a pair of pliers to hold the other part in place as you turn JUST the end. Turn it TOWARDS the drivers side and it should get tighter as you turn it.

Yank the cupholder/ashtray assembly (pull straight up), put your foot on the service brakes, lower the parking brake handle, tighten the nut on the screw there as tight as you can with your fingers, re-engage parking brake, put ashtray back. Lock car, continue reading DSMtuners.

Thanks guys, its now done. However, even though the e brake engages relativily sooner now, it still doesnt hold very well when the car is on a steeper incline. I didnt put my foot on the service brakes while i was doin it though. Didnt read your post in time. I actually had the car in 2nd gear while i was tightening the e brake. Was i supposed to have my foot on the service brake? I mean does it affect anything? I know, stupid questions. But ya gotta learn somewhere... haha. Crap, i'm getting the feeling that this problem is goin to be more then just tightening the e brake handle.

you should check the rear shoes(brakes) and see how much meats left on them. even if you have disc brakes in the rear you still have shoes inside the discs. should only take about 20 min to check, and make sure you have the parking brake off if you do.

I just got new rotors and brakes all the way around. And even with that, this problem has been evident even before i had that done.

well if the brakes are new all the way around and you tighted the hand brake inside, the only thing left is to check the cable. just woundering, but about how many times did you turn the nut under the cup holder for adjusting the hand brake?
