even with the hand brake down, the BRAKE light on the dash wont shut off. it shuts off randomly after a bit of driving. what could be causing this?

i had the same problem with my 7g galant...i kno it's not a dsm, but... :)
anyways, the brake pads or discs might be worn or bad, that's what caused my problem

Try adjusting your ebrake. If you take of the plastic around it I am pretty sure there is a way to adjust it.

Thats weird that it starts up randomly. After resurfacing my rotors the brake light stayed on all the time. I reset the ecu and it hasnt happenend again.

^^bingo. fill up your brake fluid reservoir. the light will more than likely go out. the eclipse that i use for work does this when the brake pads wear to the point that an excess amount of fluid is taken up by the system. a couple ounces of fluid always turns the light off.

is the fluid low?

Yeah I would defiantly check the fluid. Mine wasnt low but theres a little rubber thing on the other side of the cap that was pushing the fluid to make the computer think it was.

theres a floating sensor in there, thats most likely the problem....and after you fill it up, make sure you stuf that rubber back into the lid :thumb:

I have the saing me problem too! Mine started some time after I installed a new slave cylinder. I connected the battery and everything was fine, but the car felt weird. A few days later my light would come one but won't go off until a while later. I have fluid in the reservoir. I have a 1st gen would the scanner work on my car too? WTF

AutoZone seems to have returned all their ODBI scanners, as no one was renting/requesting to use them. All the local one has is an ODBII scanner. My mechanic would pull the codes for me for free, but I got tired of having to go back each time there might be a problem, and just bought a datalogger cable. Read the DTCs myself, saves a load of time.

this happened to me last week. I checked the usual. fluids slamming on the brakes pulling on the ebrak to see if it was grabbing nothing was out of the ordinary. Than I started to look at the E brake itself. Well theres a small switch. So I played with the switch pushing on the little button and nothing. So I disconnected the wire and bingo brake light went off. So that narrowed it to the connection and nothing serious. So I followed the E brake wire and found that I hooked my turbo timer to it as a safety thing so no one tries to drive off my car as the engine was still idling. So I looked at the turbo timer wire and it was disconnected!!!! So I connected it and the light went off.
Moral of the story. If you have a TT than you may have had to hook one of the wires to the ebrake signal wire. Check to make sure that the tt wire is connected correctly. You say that it goes off sometimes so just make sure the wire is snug.
If disconnecting the Ebrake plug shuts the light off than you know theres nothing wrong with your brakes. A code will not appear either so just look into the wires.

Thanks man, I recently installed a timer a few months ago, but when my friend hooked it up he was getting something like 5v @the e-brake so he didn't connect it to the brakes. I was gonna find anothe r source but we never got around to it , been very busy. I gonna also check the ebake cable because it feels like it might be grabbing on the rear, as I said the car feel funny when I drive. :toobad: :toobad:

got it fixed, just had to add some fluid :thumb:
