I did search, but didnt find everything I was looking for.
I few weeks ago I was driving my Talon to work and I noticed a strange humming coming from the rear passenger wheel. I had recently just replaced all the calipers, rotors, and pads but it didn't sound like a brake issue. It sounded like the wheel bearing.
I took the car to a shop and they assumed it was also the wheel bearing, they ordered the part and while pulling all the parts off to install the new wheel bearing they seen that the inner lip of the e-brake backing plate was bent just enough to push on the e-brake pads and forcing the pads to touch the back of the wheel studs!!
They called me and told me what they found, I had them stop the repair, put the car back together and got the car home. I plan on taking the wheel apart and looking at the issue my self. But I can not figure out why this would have happened? I didn't hit anything in the road, or any pot holes like that. It just start making the noise one day out of the blue.
Perhaps I over tightened the wheel on? The only other thing I can think of is while I was changing the brake parts on that side, I had the e-brake on and tried pulling the e-brake drum off. I pulled so hard a few times until I realized how stupid I was for having the e-brake on!! However the car drove fine for the first 100 miles, so I figured if there was going to be an issue for me beating and pulling on the e-brake drum while the brake was on, it would have started the first few miles of driving the car.
Anyone ever have any issues with the e-brake backing plate bending in towards the e-brake shoes??
From the pictures, you can see the small lip pressing into the e-brake shoes, which pushed the e-brake shoes in the back of the wheel studs on the back of the wheel hub
