I finally found the bronze color of this paint last night. It's not just ordinary spray paint but is supposed to be primarily made for wheels. They're resistant to oil, chemicals, etc. I've spraypainted my wheels with the silver and the outcome was amazing.

However, now that I look at the bronze I think it's a little off in color. More of a brownish type. Have any of you seen or known someone with rims painted with this paint?

Here's a pic or two of the color. If I backed it with a whitish/light gray primer would I get a more bronze color?

Yes your basecoat will change the brightness of the color. Using black as I"m assuming you did, you will get a darker color. Gray will be a bit lighter and white will be the lightest. The most accepted method of priming would be using a primer that is close in shade to the color that you will be spraying over top of it. So if you were spraying a super bright green you would want to use straight white whereas if you are spraying barcelona red you will want a darker shade possibly a dark red or if that isn't available a dark gray. Another reason to use say white primer under a very vibrant color is because it will not require as much base to cover the area.

I understand. The color on the cap looks more brown than anything. So applying a coat of light paint underneath would give me a more bronze color?

If it looks too brown and you want to lighten it up to look bronze I would suggest possbly trying to spray some kind of gold color underneath it. What I would do is make up a little test panel and spray a white primer, a coat or two of a bright gold color and then lightly spray the wheel color over it. Do a couple test panels and vary the amount of gold and the amount of "bronze color" and see what works out best. I mean who knows you might end up with a lighter coat of the actual wheel paint then you first considered.

Order of operation:
-Wash wheels
-Aircraft remover paint stripper
-Wash
-Sandblast(made the sandblaster just to do the wheels :p )
-Wash
-Prime both sides(ACE brand grey primer)
-Paint inside flat black with Rustoleum Auto paint
-Clean outside one last time with a scratch pad to remove overspray and prime again
-2 light(not too light) coats of Duplicolor silver wheel coating, one medium "wet-out" coat to get the finish I wanted. 10 mins in between each coat
-3 medium coats of clear coat(duplicolor clear wheel coating) 20 mins after last coat of paint, 10 mins in between coats of clear
-All done outside in the sun on a 70 deg day

The color is close to what they were before which is what I wanted, as they were very corroded previously.

I am very happy with the results and I'm sure the rest will turn out even better(1 of 4). The paint was fairly forgiving and applied very well. The only complaint is a rough finished in spots I couldn't cover well such as the lug holes, and a slight unevenness in color where I had to transition the "sweeping pattern". The clear coat REALLY makes it shine and is very impressive in person for a rattle can job. Be sure to mask off where you aren't painting if you decide to paint the inside too, overspray hovers around the inside and leaves a horrible dusty texture.

I'm hoping it lasts a long time. This was MUCH more of a project than I expected.

p.s. The paint is still not completely dry after 24 hours, I was figuring out how I was going to do the center cap and my fingernail made an indent in the paint. I suggest letting the paint dry more before applying the clear coat too, for overall drying purposes.

great would you happen to know if they make this in a bright green color? Cause im looking into doing this for my car. I think it will look awesome. Thanks for the tips on everything regarding the white primer for the green and everything.

Bright Green? I know everyone says dont listen to other people and blah blah, but damn son, Bright Green?

Everything on the sandblaster was made by me except for the sandblasting gun itself. It took A LOT longer than I expected but I'm very happy with it. Took a total of about $50 :thumb: I can fit a small village in it :)

p.s. Yes, those are jeans with gloves sewn to the ends (thanks grandma).

So how much was the sand blasting gun? The rest was just to make sure the sand went back to where it originaly came from... I've used real sand blasting machines... Huge tanks with windows and stuff like that... but making your own... thats bad azzz!

The gun was originally my dads, they are real cheap anyway. I'd say about $20 for a craftsman. And btw, only use ceramic tips. I've tried case hardening the steel ones and they still barely hold up.

I got sick of using the one at work, and how small it was. The window on mine is 1 foot tall and almost 2 feet wide :D Plus sitting down is soo much more comfortable :sneaky:
