Richmond Hill,
Is it possible to have 2 intercoolers in your car, one that is mounted in the front, and another mounted behind the passenger side wheel and have them connected? This is on a 92 talon turbo.

So you are going to run piping from your turbo to the front bumber on one side through an intercooler, accross the front of your bumber to the other side through ANOTHER intercooler, then up through the stock upper pipe location around to your throttle body?

What part of "shorter intercooler piping is more beneficial" did you not learn about? On top of that you are going to be running piping right where a FMIC goes anyways... So why not just get an FMIC? They are like 200 bucks (VRSF anyone???)... All that piping you are going to get for your two intercoolers is probably going to be more than that...

Do what you would like, it's your car. But you cannot honestly think of getting positive feedback from a question like that.

Now if your question was: "Would this work?" Then maybe you would get some good response (probably not). But beneficial? Nah bro.

On a positive note: When one heatsoaks you have a backup... LOL. That is the only thing I can think of on the positive side...

All companies that used to make upgraded SMICs for our cars have stopped. If you can find one used, you're a lucky person in most instances. Some shops still have them for around 400$ but in most cases it's a site error on their supply numbers and they really don't have any. Supra SMIC is your other option. Running 2 SMIC would increase lag, not to mention the piping would bring it back in front of the exhaust manifold which is a hot zone (heating it up on it's way to the other one). I've debated it myself a while back but one with water/meth injection works just as well without the lag ;)

I expected feedback not dickish comments like your statements. for real I was asking a legitimate question about something I know has been done before so that's why I didn't ask if it Will work. I made my question more specific to my desires. now I realize more lag is something I would have to account for but honestly just how much more lag could I be expected to see? I don't see with the extra piping and intercooler me honestly having much more volume than a big fmic and its required piping.

do two side mounts and a big ass front mount, then and only then, will your gst (with stock t25) be a true baller.

Dejon tool made a kit to run dual sidemounts way back in the day. like 2003. one on each side and a couple of y pipes. I"m sure it worked better than one stocker, but it looked like a pain in the ass.

Here are some pictures, poor design. We have better FMIC routing now, not to mention cores that are more efficient at heat transfer and dissipation.

What a mess! I like as little under the hood as possible, not adding twice as much! Imagine chasing the boost leaks. :tease:

There has to be a ton of heat soak issues with the pipe running damn near against the manifold.

The only good way to run 2 or more side mounts is to cut the end tanks off and weld them into a big fmic.

The merge pipes caise pressure losses, and the extra piping will certainly cause pressure losses. My FMIC has less piping than a single SMIC (I know this because I had to cut the SMIC piping to get it to fit w/the FMIC) so I don't know how you think you can plumb two and have it be similar to a short route FMIC. Also take into consideration doubling all the possible places for boost leaks and you've got a headache in the making.

Look for an upgraded SMIC or Supra unit, they sell for cheap. It is also hard to beat the VRSF kit.

That just looks silly.
Totally agree, but must have been the shit back in 2003 LOL

I would love to see numbers behind this... I bet there is little to no gain. I like how it passes right by the exhaust mani. LOL

I would also, but its hard for me not to believe that this dual intercooler set up more efficient then a short route set up with a proven aftermarket core such as a garrett or or the one vsrf uses.

You probably misunderstood me, I am saying dual intercooler set up is inefficient. There is no reason to use old tech unless you want to vintage DSM look or being unique. There are better setups for cooling charged air. I would rather just use one stock intercooler and injection to cool inlet temps rather than two dsm intercooler set up.

Maybe if you took multiple cores and welded them together you would have the efficiency and short routing that should be gained from using more than one DSM intercooler core.
