Well I started a thread yesterday about removing the AC fan and a couple post gave me ideas. How many of you run a second fan on you radiator that is either switch or temp activated. And for you temp activated guys how hard was it to wire?
 
They sell kits everywhere, auto parts store or summit racing, etc. They are a relay controlled by a temp probe. I use one for my gearbox cooling system. Some of them come with nice dual 30amp relays to run big juice pulling fans like SPAL, etc. Also your stock ECU switches the fans off and on with temperature. You could use the stock fan wiring to control relays off and on. Stock setup has hi/lo operation you need to figure out the right wires using a volt meter.
 
on my eclipse gst i have 3 fans two slim ones where the stock fans go and one in front of the radiator. they are hooked up to accessory so wheni turn the key to accesory they turn on. and they are on at all times when the car is on. but i also have a switch to turn them off if i want. but with that extra fan in front of the radiator cools everything down alot more.

and i took out my thermostat. helped out alot!

bad idea.

1) hard to reach hot enough temperature
2) takes long to heat up
3) last but most importantly the tstat functions as a restrictor, this increases the pressure in the block, higher pressure = higher boiling point. Sometimes race applications use restrictor plates. Better idea would be to gut your tstat. With that said I have had zero problems with OEM tstats and never found a single aftermarket that didn't overheat my car.

when i put in a brand new OEM thermostat in my eclipse. my car started to over heat the temp gauge keeps going up and up and up. so i replaced it when a thermostat from autozone a fail safe one and still the car over heated. so i took that sucker out. and no more over heat hasnt overheated at all since i took it out over a year ago.:thumb:
 
dude i havnet had a thermostat for over a year now and my car runs perfect. i love it. the the temp gauge actually stays below the middle mark. so yea :beatentodeath:

Regardless of what your OEM temp gauge tells you (and who knows how hot the "middle" mark is), it's not a good idea to run your engine TOO cold. One of the things the ECU reads in order to go into open loop mode is operating temp. If it's too cold (like when you start your car in the morning) the ECU stays in closed loop mode, which is generally not the optimum fuel settings that you'd want to run all the time, until your car reaches normal operating temp.

Obviously there's another problem if you've replaced your T-stat with a new one and you're still having overheating issues. Have you thrown any CEL's? Or, did you remove that too because you already checked that the engine is still there?
 
I am running 2 slim fans. One in stock location, second one in front of rad. Both of them are wired like stock ones but the one in front /AC one/, I can turn on from inside the cockpit using AC button, even I don't have AC.

Well if that's the case and you kept changing your Tstats and it kept overheating, maybe it's not the Tstat that's to blame overheating your car? While taking the tstat out of the car may cure the problem (since your fluid is always running) you're still denying an underlying problem that can get worse with time. Maybe your fans aren't cutting on? Maybe your radiator that's probably 14+ years old has decided to bite the dust, or maybe you just have something else wrong like fluid level, wrong fluid, etc? Maybe you should find out what's really causing the problem instead of band-aid fixing. Just my .02, but do what you want^^ I'm guilty too, I drove around for 2 weeks w/o my Tstat ### I didn't feel like fixing my fans, but I did FIX it!! LOL, good luck w/ your problems

For the past 3 years, I've been running dual slim fans. I have them both wired up together to the OE low speed fan relay. At 210*, they both activate, and my temperature never climbs furthur. I would definitely recommend this type of set-up.
