dsmmaps vs dsmlink

A few things I wanted to add. I have used both systems and they both will get the job done. As said before, yes the logging in link is much more refined at the moment. I really enjoy the setup there and it makes sifting through logs very easy.

The thing that is great about DSmap is the real time tuning aspect. The ostrich is a wonderful tool that I use on other platforms so I am familiar with it's capabilities. The difference here would be for example, in link, to make changes in the DA table you have to turn the car off and reflash. Some people find this not to be an issue but for more experienced tuners, this can just get in the way of progress. The real time tuning aspect of the jackal makes it a very powerful program which can let a good tuner get WOT maps tuned in very little time.

DSmaps also has a different school of thought when it comes down to the layout. It is not oversimplified by any means, but it rather focuses on giving the user enough tools to get the job done well. There have been many discussions about the formula's used, and which are more accurate to calculate air intake and so on.... Well I really don't care as long as I can move numbers around and get desired effect and it is repeatable. This has been working well in the Honda realm for many years now and is quite effective.

ECMlink has a wonderful MAP trace interface which is very effective. Example would be if you look through a log and see that there needs to be a timing change, you can actually see where the ECU is looking at in the map.

ECMlink just has a way to make things a bit more complicated than needed. The engineer in me can appreciate this but I think that more could have been done to stream line some of it. Sometimes it is like trying to tie your shoes in the mirror.

So there is my $ 2*10^-2

Both are great tools with great support. I would advise for people to do there homework and decide which is a better fit for them.

thanks for all the input. i think i will give DSMAPS a try and see how it goes..:hellyeah: i will just need ALOT of help getting the tunning aspect of it correct.. but im sure i will get it figured out.

you can do this with Jackal as well. If you log the ROW, you can see what the ECU is trying to target for AFR and timing.

He's referring to something entirely different. When viewing a log, you can click a specific moment and that cell of a specific table will be highlighted to show where that moment was on the map. It's a handy time saving tool.

Making or modifying something yourself using community support and testing through the community with proven results for damn near nothing. Sounds really DSM-ish to me.

I kinda agree, but you have to admit that this is also the attitude that results in a bunch of broke-ass cars sitting on jackstands wishing they could figure out where they went wrong because someone on the "interweb" told them it was an awesome "free mod" and would make them run 12's.

In the meantime, DSM's get a bad rap for being unreliable because their broke-ass owners won't fix them properly and spend the money where it should be spent.

Just thought I would add to the drama... :)

I agree Dsm's get the bad unreliable rep due to 90% of the owners being tight ass's and not spending extra money but times are especially tough these days and these cars arn't getting any younger so this problem is multiplied. As far as people thinking this is a free mod, that will get you 12's by not doing anything, that's just ignorance and that's there own problem. I wish people with Link and DSMAP the best. I remember when neither option was available and I'm just glad there is competition because that is better for the consumer.:thumb:

This is all so true. Well stated.:thumb:
